Fished with my buddy (he launches out of staten island) and another friend of his today, we started off on the rockaway side of ambrose and had a few good fish to start the morning (19.5 and 22 inches) with descent action up until 11 am, then it slowed. It seemed the deeper we fished the more sea robins we had to deal with, we'd find pockets of fluke along the edges of the channel, if we were able to stay longer into the outgoing we may have had a better day, we wound up with 4 keepers, and probably 30 or so shorts (a good number around 17-17.5),
Two of the four fish I cleaned had 6 inch chartreuse grubs in their stomach, one still with a hook in it, since the fish was a keeper I doubt it was cut off, perhaps a bad knot or bad line.
