the walleyes wouldn't cooperate this morning and neither would anything else for 3 hours...so we straight up trailered and left haha. No, we didn't quit. We made a strategic move to a different lake! It was a pickerel fest for sure but I nabbed some pigs between the pickles.

As my buddy maneuvered the boat flawlessly, A 19" largie ate my silver surfer fly 10' down in 25' of water. Unfortunately a big green barracuda stole that fly shortly after (back to the vise for me I guess).

I switched to last years favorite fly, the green goblin and sent it down deeper to 20' in 45' depths hoping to avoid the teeth and nab another fat smallie. It worked, picking off a 19.75" beast and a smaller 18" jumping maniac! Man it is intense when they rocket out of the water too far away from you to control them! Still pickerel at this depth but none got teeth on my leader so it's all good.

We stayed a little too long as the rain and lightning arrived just before we were able to get the boat out of the water. Alls well that ends well I guess but we def should've took off about 15 minutes sooner haha. Stay safe guys!

DAYUM dude!! Nice bag! Been doing your thing with the bass lately. Good job. I luv seeing those really darker smallies, only find them on the D or the 'Po though.

Forgot to mention this weird thing on the largie. It was growing a green algae type thing on its gill plate. Like that slimy hairy stuff you see on shallow rocks...it was part of his skin...anyone ever see that? Seemed healthy otherwise.

Think that happens sometimes on not so healed wounds and maybe a sign of infection but i'm no researcher.....Just what i've seen

Just a quick question: do they sell leaders that are pickerel/pike proof? I've lost a few good (and expensive) flies recently to pickerel. I may look into getting something strong but light to withstand the sharp teeth yet remain castable. I've seen one guy on the PR from time to time chasing pike with flies. I imagine he uses very large streamers.

I've used knot2kinky leader in 25 test to target musky. It's very thin and pretty flexible (although it will kink with enough stress). It might be what you're looking for. I've horsed in musky up to 47" with it and haven't broken it yet. So it's def strong enough. I'm sure it will hinder your fly action but probably less than anything else I can think of.

I was using 10 flouro with a loop knot. Doesn't hinder the fly action but also can't take too many tooth strikes if they take it deep. My buddy used 17 flouro and it withstood the pickerel teeth much better but seems to scare off fish some days.
