I went down to the river this morning and was hoping to find some pike. Instead the bass were agressive. I caught one that weighed three pounds with a 8-10 inch fish in its gullet. The tail was hanging out the throat but could not make out what it was. The second bass was a little over two pounds. Both fish were caught on a spinnerbait. I rarely catch largemouth out of river. Usually smallmouths only.. No pike but I always appreciate the bass hitting hard!

Some great lookin river bass bro! That second one def had a nice meal, I've seen them get landed with crayfish sticking out their throat. They do get aggressive when the bite is on.
Nice catch!

Nice bass. I didn't run into even one bass this year while pike fishing.

The river definitely produces very chubby Bass, on average more so than the Bass I catch in lakes. My PB 23" Largemouth came from the rivah :D

A lot of the bass that I've seen and caught on the PR have an interesting look to them. Everyone that I've caught has been rotund regardless of length. They also seem to have a smaller than usual mouth for a largie. Perhaps an element of divergent evolution? Anyone else notice this in PR bass?

Nice fish too dude...

Jigman, I would have to agree. All of the largemouth that I have caught in the passaic have had smaller mouths. I need to find a pic of my personal best. The mouth was so small you would think it was a smallmouth bass and the fish was about four pounds. In the lower passaic I have caught largemouth wih bruises on them. I guess it is a tougher environment for them compared to a lake.
