So last week was my first try at some flatheads and I was in the water gap national park. Drove around for about 3 hours because I no idea where to try. Finally found a boat ramp and just had to get the line wet. Water didn't even look too fishy but I had to try. Got the skunk but did see a bobcat on the way out of there so that made it worth my while. Went again last night but further south in Belvidere. Set up just before dark. Used live sunnies, some cut bait, and my buddy had some weird catfish bait from wal mart. Had a hit on the cut bait early but missed it. Then had one good run on the sunny but missed that too. The my buddy with the freaking Walmart bait whacks a 6lb channel. That was it for the rest of the night. I'm def gonna keep trying, and anyone wants to go one night let me kno!

Way to keep working to make it happen. Congrats to your buddy on his fish...you can never guess what's gonna work or not that's for sure. Point is you tried different things and that's what always works best.

Nicely done and thanks for the report.

If you strictly are targeting flatheads stick with only live bait this time of year, early and late in the season cut bait can work but is not very consistent. They are in the area so keep trying, this time of year I would fish near faster water or the edges of weed flats both shallow 2-4ft of water just to give you some advice where to help with your chances crossing paths with the flatheads
