Broken Rod Tip

Unfortunately, one of my buddies broke the tip of my 7 foot st. croix mojo rod. Does anyone have any experience in fixing broken rods or am I just screwed? It was my favorite rod.

Dude I think I did that about 4 times to a cheap rod before I gave up on it. 1st I try to only put 1 new eye at the tip. If more is needed, I use a piece from a spare parts pole to slip on, glue, and hold it together...kinda like connecting pic plumbing. If you take your time, I'm sure it'll work just as well. If it's just the guide and the actual graphite isn't broken, replacing the tip guide is cheap or you can even do it yourself. I'm assuming the tip actually broke off, in which case I would't just have it fixed because it will change the action of the rod. As was suggested, when you buy a good rod, which you did, they come with good warranties. St. Croix has the best. It may cost you a few bucks, but will be a lot cheaper than buying a new rod.

If it's just the tip go to a store and have them put a new one on. 2-5 bucks. If it's more than a few inches putting a new tip will put the guide too close to the next one and change the action of the rod (stiffer) and may not work right for you but you never know. I had a new guide put on a few weeks ago because the line gudie came off, then last week I accidently tapped my father rod while casting and it broke right at the guide. I put a new one on because I only lost 1/2"

when you buy a good rod, which you did, they come with good warranties. St. Croix has the best. It may cost you a few bucks, but will be a lot cheaper than buying a new rod.

X2 on sending it back to St. Croix to fix - I've had to do this a few times and they always do an outstanding job either with the repair or replacement depending on the issue - fast too... like usually 2 to 3 weeks

get in touch with st croix before you do anything. I had an abu garcia veracity snap between the tip and 2nd guide last year, sent abu a bunch of pics and info and they sent me a brand new rod for the cost of shipping. then I brought the rod to efingers and had them glue on a new tip, barely changed the action at all. if you only lost a little off the tip take it to effingers and have them glue a new one on if you don't want to diy. prices are very reasonable, pretty sure theyre still a sponsor here.

I usually bust one rod a season-most of the time between the tip & first guide. What do if I cannot get a warranty is remove the first guide from broken rod, glue on a new tip guide & then spilt the difference between the tip guide & the remaining guide & tie on a new guide between the two then epoxy the threading.

I did one for a friend last year & my buddy loves that rod now. He keeps in his truck as his lunch time fishing rod.

If anyone found a 6" spilt RAPALA in the TIGER pattern with a fluro leader & a 2" section of a gray graphite rod tip around the power lines @ SKUNKSVILLE let me know. Would love to get that lure back if the monster that destroyed my pole did not keep it! My bad, should not have used such a light tipped pole @ night in SKUNKY when walleye fishing. Would have loved to at least saw the fish that did that!

for 20 bucks st Croix will send you a new rod. go to their site and you can print a fed ex label to ship it back. I HAVE DONE THIS 3 TIMES WITH NO QUESTIONS ASKED. they stand behind their products.

I just sent back a St Croix rod. Depends on eich series it is. $15 to send back, $14 for 2 4' tube from staples that you tape together and ship it back in and $20 check for return shipping if they determine it was their fault. They have several warrantee plans to if it is older, your fault, or you want to upgrade. Check out their warrantee page.

St Croix all day! The rods are reasonable for the most part and the warranty/ replacement plan is unmatched.
