After spending the past two months trying to zone in on pike and before then fishing for trout, I finally decided that it was time to start bass fishing. Got in contact with my cousin and headed out on Split Rock for a few hours of fishing. Launched around 5:00 and were packed up and leaving shortly after dusk. In only a few hours of fishing I landed a 1/2 lb largemouth and a 1 lb smallmouth on topwater baits while my cousin got a few bluegill on a rapala. After fishing the shoreline we decided to troll some rapalas back and landed two trophy crappie and a large perch. Great day out and certainly a big changeup from the constant skunks on the P!

Glad to see the lake doing well after the draw down and dam repair. I'll ask you the same question I ask everyone else who visits and fishes there, how did the parking lot and launch area look, trashed or clean ?

It looked pretty clean, I only saw two small cardboard tubes from people launching fireworks in the lot. Other than that I didn't notice any other garbage.

Since this was only my second time out (My last time being last fall) I don't know how it is relative to the recent past. It's definitely up from when I was last there but its still maybe 5 feet below the waterline.

I'm wondering if that is the the new normal water level, or if it still has to do with the dam work. If it's the new normal then that would suck. Some of my most productive areas are now grass choked swamps.

On the bright side, launching is a lot easier at this level because your are launching from a small beach, instead of among the rocks.

I honestly don't think it is the new water level. If you head over by the dam, you can see that there are two large openings in the concrete a few feet up. I'm pretty sure that those will become the outflow when the water level reaches that height.
