this year is off to a painfully slow start for muskie with me. headed out with fishinfool (trying to get his first). took us a while to find some or for the bite to turn on. had two follows off a point but no take. then shortly after guys behind us trolling (we were casting) hooked into one. we hoped that was a sign the bite was coming on and it was.
shortly after i got a perfect solid hit in range that i could see it on my slow hovering frankenspinner i set the hook hard and just for a split second the rod slipped in my palm and twisted giving the muskie the littlest bit of slack...gone before i could recover! shortly after that i hit the thick weeds with top water because fishinfool saw movement, he was spot on, another muskie! I got it to follow out to the edge of the open water before it hit (perfect!) bam it nails it! swing and a miss! should've waited an extra 1/100th of a second!!
I blew one great chance and another good chance. wish fishinfool had a strike so he at least got a chance at one, but we'll get it! neither fish was huge, maybe mid 30s", but would've been nice. caught one average pickerel to avoid the skunk.
