View Full Version : Spring Lake surprise

After the thunderstorms blew through my area, I went to Lake Shenandoah to see if I could get lucky and bag a tiger muskie. I hucked some big spoons and jerkbaits around, but no action. Lots of big painted turtles sunning themselves. After that I swung by Spring Lake, hoping to probe the slop with a weedless frog for some bass. However, to my surprise I saw some trout cruising in a deep hole in the middle of the weeds. There were at least a dozen, maybe more, and not one was under 15 inches. There was also a big brown that was close to about 2 feet! I tossed a small grub at them, and a fish charged at it, but veered off at the last second. That happened about 20 or so times. Finally, one committed and I landed a solid tiger trout. Seeing as how the water temps would probably kill it in a couple weeks anyway, I brought it home for dinner. That was the only one I was able to hook. Not the kind of day I was expecting, but I'll take it.

Saw those Trout there on Saturday when I was frog fishing, spent over an hour trying to get them, missed one on fly and missed a lot of bass on the frog, including a five pounder . But avoided the skunk with 2 nice bass on a senko :)
