swimbaits rigged weedless and thrown on the edge, into, on top of, and through are one of my favorite lures to use for lm bass, pickerel, muskie, etc. the usual 'wide gap' hooks sold at the store that you can use in this manner are not wide enough for the swimbaits i like to use. The only ones i've found that are big enough to give me a good hook up ratio are the 'owner BEAST' ones. Ramsey has them...sometimes, usually they're out of the size i want haha. anyone know of any good really wide gap hooks? maybe ones that aren't 8 bucks for a pack of 3 weighted hooks and 6 bucks for 3 unweighted?

Gami, falcon, omtd, and decoy all make a comparable hook...weighted and unweighted. Search around and you'll find them for a tad less than what you're paying...

I use gamikatsu wide hooks and have never had an issue, I think they're like $4 for 6

There's a reason why those Owner Beast hooks cost so much. Stick with them. Search on amazon and ebay and you can pick them up for around $4.

I can sometimes get them for around $3. If I see them, I'll PM you and give you a heads up. I typically use 4/0, 5/0 for jerks and swimbaits, 8/0 for 9" super worms.

cool, thanks.

i think 4/0, 5/0, and 6/0 fit my favorite size swimbaits

I like the Gami EWG (extra wide gap) hooks for that same purpose. Gami also makes heavier "super line" hooks that are a bit pricier.

Those Owner Beast hooks are nice, and they include that screw keeper, which the Gami hooks don't have. The Owner keepers have that center post that keeps them going into the bait straight too, much better than others I've used.

And as an aside, Ramsey has a good inventory management system, so they can have something you want transferred from one store to another overnight. And their inventory is tied to their web site so that if something is listed on their web site, it is in-stock at one of the stores. I used to work there.

must be just my bad luck then, cause they almost always have one or none of what i go there to get (stuff i know they used to have like a week before, and then it'll be weeks before i see it again).
