We kicked off memorial day weekend with a bang yesterday. I had the pleasure to fish with one of my customers yesterday on a charter he booked out of Great Kills in Staten Island. Left the dock in the dark and had our bait for the day in a couple of throws of the net. Headed out and we were fishing about 20 minutes after first light. It was game on about 5 minutes after we anchored up. Even though we were fishing heads there were lots of bluefish from 5-15#, but we were able to get through to a some bass. I landed the first about 25# after about an hour and we quickly boxed up a NY limit. After the change of the tide the blues backed off and we continued to pick away at 15-20# bass. My girlfriend couldn't get through the blues all morning but pulled out a beautiful fish at the end of the trip. She handled the fish like a pro and when we saw the head on the fish we all thought it was easily over 40#. When the captain grabbed her by the mouth and lifter her in we were all surprised by how lean she was. Fish was 48" but we estimated he in the mid 30's. After a picture we revived her and sent her on her way. Fished for a little longer and decided to head in. Back at the dock by 10 before the wind picked up. With 3 anglers we landed 7 Bass and lost count of the blues.
Here is a picture of me holding HER fish against my chest. She almost always outdoes me!
