So Andre hit me up to do some night fishing at spruce and although itd be my first time and I had no idea what to do I was down. So i got there around 6 and he was stuck in traffic so I decided to just throw some spinners. Second cast boom, 15.5'' rock bass. My first ever rock bass and actually my first ever fish on a spinnerbait. Couple casts later another hard hit and a 18" LMB For my new PB. Few casts later thing gets rocked again and the fight is on. Had to hurry and loosen my drag a little. Turned out to be just a 18.5" LMB for a new PB but he put up a good fight. Andre and Alex arrived shortly after and I fished until about 10 with no luck. They stayed out a bit longer and caught a nice LMB and a decent catfish. Still on the hybrid hunt. Thanks guys!

The first pic is a smallmouth...not a rock bass. Nice looking fish man. Nothing wrong with any of those fish!

Ryan,
Man it was a pleasure but traffic killed me.
Not going to make a post just add up to yours. We didn't manage to get any wipers besides the baby one. Some catfish were biting in a smaller range.
Here is what happened after you left. Just have to rub this little piggy in man:

Overall once wind died out fishing was great. Not many takers but they were splashing all around us. We stayed out until a little after midnight with fish bite starting after 9pm as always.
All fish was safely released for another day.

They call Rock Bass "goggle eye" because they have large(compared to their body size) red eyes. They are rarely over 10" too and are more sunfish bodied than slender like smb. SMB also fight about 10x harder and jump. Rock Bass never jump unless you sneak up behind them and scare 'em. lol

Ahh damn andy I hoped you were exaggerating when you told me but damn that thing is a hog. I'll attribute it to my lucky bait haha. Definitely gotta try again this weekend.

Ryan,
Of course man. If it wasn't for the bait that would of not happened.
It was all about patience and faith.
It was a bit of the let down on the wipers though and from all the hits we had I can only contribute one to being them and of course I missed it completely.
Quick question though.
Is it legal at Spruce to use nets to catch bait fish and do I need a permit for that. With all the bait fish we saw last night it would of been nice to get some.

I don't know about nets but i think the traps with bread inside should be okay. Maybe someone else can chime in

Buzzbaiter...what you're getting at here. The first pic is a smallmouth...not a rock bass. The pic from another post is a rock bass...I just copied and pasted it into this reply.

Wow - that bass is huge!
I am amazed that such an over-fished suburban lake can produce big bass like that.
I looked up the regulation on using cast nets. From what I can determine, it appears you can not use a cast net in a lake, but you can use it in a stream if trout aren't stocked there. Am I reading this right?

nice fishing guys! and from shore...awesome, i don't even have the patients to shore fish much anymore, i just haul the jon boat everywhere, until one day when my shoulders or back collapse from carrying it.

Yeah I usually take out my jon boat too but its only 10 foot so I dont feel to comfortable taking it out on Spruce and RVR
