Finally got Doug and his step son out on the water. Told him yesterday sucked fur us but he was willing to put some faith in me.
Stopped at Pete's for our magic clams and stretch 25s and hit the water to set up for the incoming. It took a little while to get them going but once we had em we had a nice pick going. I ended up with a dozen shorts and a keeper (released to swim another day). Handed a few off to Kenny who did a great job. Doug ended up with four and begrudgingly handed one off to Kenny:D
Tried trolling on the way in and still could not get it right. Still, a great day on the water

Knowing Steve as we do, he probably paid $2.50 for that $5 word. ;)

True dat Doug it's a shame I can't give him 2.5 stars  especially since he took my 5 star post to 4 stars for no good reason

Here's what works for me trolling stretch plugs. 1) Color does matter 2) 75'- 100' of line. I use metered braid, so 3 to 4 colors depending on depth. 75' gets me down about 20' and 100' about 25'. Vary depending on depth. if you start bouncing bottom crank it up about 5 turns. 3) I troll between 2.3 and 2.5 mph on the GPS. hope this helps. I don't prefer trolling but you gotta do what you gotta do.

It all helps, except for the wise ass remarks from my buddies before:D
Will keep at the trolling until I get at least one. Now it's a pride thing:)
Also have a problem with lines crossing. Outroders would help, but as previously stated I'm too cheap :). I know I also must make smother and wider turns.

I have no moral or ethical issues with trolling...probably because I grew up on the Great Lakes and that's the only way to catch the salmon and the lake trout.
You can pick up outrodders for around $50 a piece off of Amazon...I'd suggest the ones I got, but I just checked and they don't carry them anymore. Makes a world of difference on eliminating the line crossing.
And yes...you really have to lock yourself into the notion of wide turns.

OBTW my calculations were including the use of out-roders. you would probably need to add another 25'-50' with out them. Bang bottom and crank up from there is not a bad idea. You want the baits on the bottom and slow.

Sometimes a new plug will go left or right .Change plugs maybe you have a bad one. I would rather crank um up then make a big slow turn when trolling in a crowd. It will waste time. It is easier to crank them in when you put the boat in neutral lol

You can tune them to run straight.
I wonder if there's any situation while trolling that you would want them to run left or right?

I am not affiliated or advocating in anyway but $50.00 for a pair is pretty darn good.

The only way Shrimpy will get out rodders is if someone paid him to take them. Or Doug bought them

You could drill a hole in each gunnel and insert a couple of broken sand spikes

Nope. The stretches can be tuned to a certain extent.Last year no matter what I did with this one plug it wouldn't work. Garbage but I saved the hooks and split rings. I try to stay away from the fleet and over the years it seems when you find your own readings you do better. Less stress being out of the fleet. One thing I would never do is troll down a party boats slick!!!!!!! It is just plain wrong and no excuse for it. It is a big bay and there are bass in the entire bay.

Maybe if Shrimpy pockets the savings from all those discounted $5 words he uses, he could at least buy ONE of em!! :D

Logged many of my trolled fish with out rodders at 2.3 to 2.8 on my boat. Always seemed to be just the right speed for the hook up. Everyone else is giving you what I have used, wide turns, mark your line or used colored line, etc., etc., etc. Keep at it shrimpy, you'll find your niche with it.
