I took my son fishing a few weeks back by Headsgate Dam on the Raritan. We did not have much success, but we had a great time watching the fish try to jump over the dam. The river was flowing strong that day, and the fish had no chance of clearing that damn, but that did not deter them from trying! What type of fish are these? Was it a shad run?

After pulling up some pics of suckers (did not realize they get as big as they do), that is likely what we saw.

They get pretty big some going a couple pounds!!!!
