Hit the Big D on Wednesday from 8a-12p. Water temp was 49 and still a bit stained. Debris in water is much more manageable. Had first shad in 5 minutes. Flutter spoons and darts were both working in any color. fishing down-riggers as well as poor man's down-riggers ( diving plugs with 3' floro to flutter spoon). lots of fish in water right now.

Looks like fun, live about 2 min from the river and have never been able to take advantage of the fishery due to my work schedule. Some day.

That is cool, I'm hoping to try it this year. Get myself a shad for the first time, would be cool. I'll have to hope my schedule matches up with someone experienced in shad fishing. Seems like it's all about being in the right spot at the right time I guess.

Are they thick Trevordog? Looks like a good time. Love that Shad fight on the big river. Got my spoons all shined up and ready to go!

I live 5 minutes from the river but don't have a boat. I've tried fishing from shore but never caught anything except an occasional small mouth. Can fish be caught from shore or do you need a boat?

I don't fish from shore, but I see plenty of guys doing up and down the river. Trick is getting the spoon or dart near the bottom. Poor man's down rigger works great. Diving plug with hooks removed, 3' of floro tied off back eye of plug to your dart or flutter spoon does the trick.

Yes they are thick. Lots of shad in the river right now. Boat next to mine must have put at least 20 in their boat. Fun fish to catch on med rod, Poor man's salmon is pretty accurate!!
