Went to Duhernal Lake yesterday and found some fish. No luck on a jerkbait & spinnerbait. Finally switched to my go-to-bait, a finesse worm, and started getting action almost right away. I fished it on a split shot rig, very slowly on the bottom and got 2 largemouths.
Also caught a big pickerel (no picture - I value my fingers!). The pickerel was hooked all the way in the gills. Tip - I cut my line and was able to get the hook out gill slit cleanly. Fish swam away fine.
Also got a good size crappie, not a common catch for me on a plastic worm.

My first pickerel of the year inhaled my panther martin. I had a 6" steel leader so line didn't snap but the spinner was deep. I had no forceps so I backed the lure out thru the gill opening. Fortunately spinner was barbless. Very little blood and it seemed to be okay. A little TLC can save a fishes life so kudos for the extra care.
