Hey guys,

What a crazy night! me and a buddy went trout fishing at dusk to one of our go-to spots. Got some trout and we were about to pack it in because it was pretty much dark out.
I decided to take 1 last cast…..BOOM my black and gold panther martin gets slammed and my 4 LB flouro start screaming up and down river……i thought it was a brood stock on steroids….. nope- big WALLEYE ! i was in disbelief but after thinking about it…it made sense.

I remember the freshwater digests stated walleye at this time "must be returned to water immediately" and so we took a quick photo and let her go of course. no weight, no measurement, I would much rather respect these beautiful fish and let them do their thing then manhandle it to get weight and measurements.

I took 1 more cast and again….. boom again walleye. same deal, quick pic and back she went immediately. I was done after that 2nd fish.
Gotta respect these babies especially right now.

What an awesome night:D:D

Wow, wow, wow!!!! Let me just head on down to the old Trout brook and catch not 1, but 2 breeder Walleye. Sure, it happens all the time, LOL! Great catch Birdman! Way to get those big girls back in the water quickly. They are so healthy and plump when they get down and dirty. I know that had to be a treat after this long crazy winter. Just AWESOME!!!!:D

WAY TO GO RELEASING THOSE BIG GIRLS! The big girls are always last to arrive to the spawning party...hopefully they we not too stressed to so they could continue the spawn & drop their eggs.

Now wasn't that better than catching dog food fed trout!!!

Thanks guys!!! this was a night to remember for sure.

I wanted to say again, that I was NOT fishing FOR these fish!
I actually felt guilty catching that 2nd fish and I immediately stopped fishing after that. Done.
Please do the right thing and respect creatures!

And all you poachers lurking out there, I was stopped by the PD (not warden) at my car and checked after walking back. When they see cars parked like that, they will wait for you. After seeing my trout gear and only a couple trout I was all good.

Amazing. And to think those walleye must have originated in the Delaware. Obviously, they've reproduced in the Raritan and established a population, but unless I'm mistaken, none have been stocked in the Raritan, canal, or Millstone--they originally made their way in via the canal from the Delaware.

Two monsters for sure! And even cooler that you brought them both in using what was surely light gear. It's amazing how many things will eat an in-line spinner too......ya just never know.
I give you credit for stopping after the second one, that probably wasn't an easy thing to do.
Kudos to you!

Thanks bros !
yea it was a tough call to stop fishing after that 2nd big girl. karma:D.
Bruce i enjoy reading your page, these fish might have been the descendants of the 1st eye's ever stocked by that state in nj.
