Hold on to your stringers while fishing along the Raritan around Duke's Park. The eagles will be looking for food now that their eggs have hatched and they have mouths to feed. This is a fun site to watch when the fledglings are being fed.

that's pretty cool.
eagles will take your fish if you leave them unattended! i've seen it happen when ice fishing.

They had a video of a hawk flying into the nest. Needless to say the eagle won, but it was a pretty awesome video.

I saw an Osprey take a fish out of a non-stocked mudhole in Westfield on Sunday.
He caught one more fish than me.

There is a heron in Westfield that loves to rub in his excellent catching ability. Any time I'm getting skunked he's catching away.

The same thing has happened to me twice.

The eagles are doing a good job fishing for their two chicks. They were just feeding them and there are fish carcasses in the nest. One looks like a small bass or trout and some of the others look like bluegills. Fascinating!

I had one locally that got 3 in one day while I got none. Thankfully I had a friend there to witness this and he and I laughed our asses off about it for months afterwards.

I live up North JERSEY & fish WAYWAYDA a lot. We have seen EAGLES follow the boat waiting for a fish to get caught & released then they swoop down & nail the fish after waiting patiently in a tree watching. This has happened a few times early in the season.
Last fall we had some OSPREY up there too for a few days but were probably displaced by the EAGLES- THEY DO NOT COMPETITION on the free pickerel.
No fish in YANDA otherwise...do not go there it sucks!!:p

My local pond has 2 cormorants. Spent about 2 hours a day Saturday through Monday, they must have eat 7 or 8 trout. Fascinating. I would let the bald eagle have my stringer to see one up close.
