Trout Stream Water Levels

Here is how the streams look today. Some of you will recognize the AT&T stretch above and below the bridge. If you fish upstream from Hacklebarney St. Park you're familiar with the stretch in the second two pictures. The streams were in great shape for spring but we still need rain to maintain favorable levels through the spring.

The first picture is a popular spot on the upper SB. As you can see, the river is in good condition and catching trout should be more consistent with the lower flow. The next set of pictures is on the other side of the mountain from Long Valley in Hackettstown. You can see that the river is higher than the SB but in great shape for opening day. I have to assume the Pequest is running about the same level as the Musky. The Musky gets stocked on Thursday as does the SB. You make up your mind about which stream will give you the most satisfaction for both catching and navigating the bottom. Good luck to all and tight lines!

it will apparently pour the friday before opening day through the night into that morning tapering off and the water is most likely going to be much colder than it usually is opening day. I wonder how i might have to change my tactics from the past few years that i've done really well...

Unless it really pours on Friday and Friday night, the streams will be in great shape. Right now they are running clear and cold. If the weather is cold and windy, a lot of the popular spots clear out early which leaves more opportunities for fishing later on. The streams and lakes start to receive more fish on Monday. Many times, week two is much better for catching numbers of fish than even opening day.

The pequest was roaring in some of my deeper honey holes on Sunday when I took a stroll by. Looked horrible. If it rains anymore, that spot won't even be worthy of thinking of on opening day. However, as you've also said, the rest of the streams looked great as of Sunday. It's rain will help some nicely. Thanks for the pics man
