son has off this week for spring break and I took the day off as my wife has work plans. son wanted to do a little fishing so we decide to hit up Hopatcong for some perch. after checking to see there was open water by brady bridge went to dows and get bait. back at brady bridge, fish for about an hour... nothing. guess the spawn is pushed back due to the cold water (have seen egg ribbons this time in other years). any way.. we pack up, but my son really wants to stay out. we do some exploring and only find private property signs everywhere... so decide to hit the state park. as i'm parking old guy in another car motions for me to roll down my window. he then proceeds to badger me about fishing because they just stocked. I told him we were trying for pan fish and that the lake was open to fishing. he starting cursing and name calling all the while my son is next to me in the car. I just want to say to this guy what a douche he was. just trying to spend some quality time with my boy.
any way fished by the boat ramp and other side for about an hour as well. son did get one dink rainbow that was realeased unharmed. we could see all the freshly stocked trout breaking water and cast away from them as best we could. if we wanted too we could have put a hurting on them , but we were there for perch (trying for anyway). saw one guy out on the ice. left around noon.

waters are closed to fishing for all species from March 17 to April 5 at 8
a.m. Exceptions: Lake Hopatcong,Mountain Lake, Lake Shenandoah,
Lawrence Brook (section from Davidson's Mill Rd. to Farrington Lake
dam), Prospertown Lake and Swartswood Lake are open year round to
fishing. However, all trout caught during this period (above) must be
released immediately
