Hardcore man, I put my ice gear away. Wandered around a wild trout stream today with just a chub to show for it. I want the big melt, sorry man haha

We drilled through an average of 15" last night on Hopatcong. No point in putting your ice gear away... If you want to fish a lake in 2015, your only option will be ice fishing. Spring took the year off. Summer is postponed till 2016. Drill baby Drill!!!!! It's our only option! :D

The odd thing about this ice season is that on January 1st, most lakes and ponds were ice-free. After checking a few web-cams, the ice has been solid since around Jan 5th. Last year ice was in from late November and out by the 23rd at least in northern Warren county.

Where do you check the web-cams? Checking the conditions before going would be great

Weather Underground weather website has what the call "personal weather stations" (PWS) throughout the country. Most have live webcams. Its good to use to see snow and ice melting. Only a few have the camera pointing in the direction of water. Couple on Lk Hopatcong; one in Succasunna and another in Allamuchy on a golf course. I use the Allamuchy one since its closest.

Some of the NJDOT cameras also have some views of water. Its good way to scout out conditions you'd otherwise have no idea how they are(frozen/running high/weedy, etc). I-287 @Boonton shows the Rockaway River if you look closely enough.

Gwl is probably still mostly safe but at this point I wanna see open water.

I fished GWL yesterday - there was still 10 -15" ice and it was cold Sat night so edges not bad - by end of day they got a little sloppier. As I was approaching the lake yesterday about 6:15 the Journey song came on Q104.3 and I thought of this thread!
