ive been doing online fishing contests for a few years and I've really enjoyed it. The site I usually use is down since a few months ago so I started trying out another site: www.onlinefishingtournament.com
It's fairly new and based out of Florida. I was going to wait to post here since he's making a lot of changes to the site and its a little weird to navigate right now but I figured I'll just do it. The guy running it is really nice, answers email questions and takes suggestions and basically everyone has a say or vote on certain things like what contests to do.
It's been a $6.50 entry fee for around$40 prizes due to limited participation but next month he's trying for bigger participation and pots. So if anyone wants to add some competitive spirit to their fishing check it out. If we keep getting people on board we can maybe start paying minimal entry fees for big pots!
And btw one of the coolest concepts I think are the slot contests. Basically a length is chosen and who ever can get the closest without going over wins. Literally anyone can win from anywhere in the country! You don't have to compete for the largest bass with guys fishing monster ponds.
I hate sounding like I'm trying to sell something but I know some guys on here will love to try this out. When I started a few years ago I asked tons of questions before I was comfortable doing these so feel free to pm or email me since I've been doing it long enough to answer most questions chrisper4694@hotmail.com
If you want to talk to the owner of onlinefishingtournament.com, Sean, His email is: Sean@onlinefishingtournament.com and he's always been very helpful to me and always takes my suggestions seriously. If you email him or join up mention my screen name it's the same as here, chrisper4694, I think you get a free entry or something if you refer 2 people haha! I'll tell Sean the njf crew is coming!

I've seen a few of these other sites offering points and rewards for fish caught. The abuse and mishandling of fish was amazing. I saw entries of under sized fish, over the limit fish, fish caught out of season and so on. I saved a few pics, this angler was awarded points for this great catch. Not a big fan. At no time do they reference catch and release, just catch and kill.

I see that one is a catch photo and release tournament, rare. The majority I have seen are catch and kill.

It's catch photo release and if your fish is clearly dead, previously frozen, (cloudy eyes, etc.) if it is obvious the fish wasn't just caught it will be a dq. Obviously you can only tell so much from a picture but c&r is def encouraged.
It's North America wide so they won't know if a fish is specifically out of season for your state but that comes down to personally following the law. All that is required is a quick photo on a bumper board or measuring tape bumped on a straight edge with the monthly token in picture.
It's pretty much exactly what the njf ice fishing contest was except run on a monthly basis with some categories that anyone can win from anywhere. These reward sites or whatever you're thinking of are not what this is at all.
This is, you join the site for free. Pay for whatever contest(s) you want to compete in for the month via PayPal. You catch a good fish you photo it on the ruler with the token. At the end of the month winners get the pot runners up get a shirt or whatever...
it's literally a monthly version of the njf ice fishing contest that everyone just enjoyed here. That's why I posted, figured this would be something guys here would like. I wouldn't be a part of whatever it is you're describing Andy.

.
I can't really navigate the site without a login, but it sounds interesting.
I'm not sure how the slot works because there can be an inherent margin of error when you're photographing a fish next to a ruler. The error is small, but it can throw the contest when the goal is to get as close to a specific measurement as possible.

that's why they really want you to use a bumper board and have the nose touching the 0" mark and the longest part of the tail actually touching the mark on the ruler, that's the length end of story no argument. if a piece of the tail goes past the slot, you're out (usually not confirmed till the last day) basically the leader board is based on each persons own measurement and then on the last day they make any adjustments. They go by 1/8" increments and first fish posted wins in the case of a tie. I've can't ever recall haven't a dispute, it's pretty cool.
The site is hard to navigate at this moment that's true. He just recently revamped the whole thing so there are still some bugs but competition is still on monthly. signing up is free and there is no commitment to compete. there are even some free contests for t-shirts and stuff sometimes.

i gotta be honest...i'm totally surprised that there is not really any interest in this after the participation in the njf ice fishing contest...this is the same thing guys, but year round! all you guys saying, i can't wait to do this again next year...this is it, it's year round same thing. catch, photo, release good odds of winning!
if there's any doubt I've won way way more than i've paid in entry fees over the past 3 years or so and i can promise you i'm no better an angler than anyone here!
The guy running it is a good guy and i'm trying to help him get this site going because i think it has potential, so do me a favor and at least give me some feed back to pass on to this guy...why aren't you interested?
Simple question that can give this guy valuable info to make the online fishing contest site better. thanks in advance for your responses!

It's pretty straight forward honestly there are just some little bugs in the layout of the site right now cause he just upgraded to a different format.
All you do is register like you sign up for any site, make a name and password. They confirm you're not a bot through your email and once you're a member you just pick what contests you want to try by clicking on them, you pay through PayPal which is awesome.
If you don't have paypal you must've never purchased anything online cause it's the safest way haha.
He's experimenting with formats so there are a lot of options right now. I'm signed up for crappie and 25" slot for April. Other options are redfish which we don't have here so you obviously wouldn't pick that. You pick whatever you want for the coming month and click it.
A token becomes available on the first of the month. You print it and take it fishing and lay it in the picture to prove you didn't catch it early. Photo the fish and ruler bumped against a straight edge like a cooler or bench seat or use a bumper board. If you win money in your PayPal account the day or two after end.
I'm hoping participation is contagious so I've been playing for small prizes the past few months. On other sights I've easily multiplied my entry fees by 6 in winnings and like I said, I'm no better an angler than anyone here or on that site..you just gotta be in it to win it!

if anyone is interested, two of the april contests (biggest crappie and closest fish to 25" without going over) are short just 1 or 2 contestants (need 6 to run) so that means you'd be competing for $100 bucks against just 5 other guys if just the minimum enter. I'm entered for both and i plan on winning both and taking $200 so bring it! haha
have to sign up before april 1 and it runs the whole month:

Alright buddy alright. Looks like this might be fun so I just signed up for those same categories! I like your attitude and demeanor. A couple of bucks gets 100, that's like having a part time job as a fisherman! Bring it on Chris "P" Creme
...
P.S. Where the hell do I get a bumper board? LOLOLOL!!!!!:D

if I don't have my bumper board I just take a straight edge piece of wood or cooler, bump my measuring tape up to it and then bump the fish nose up to it. Automatically lines up the nose and the zero and then just make sure the tail is actually just touching the ruler at the furthest point but still showing the lines and numbers clearly. Does that make sense? The guy isn't a ball buster with that stuff he only deals with it if other guys complain. I haven't had any issues yet.
If you want to buy an actual bumper board they sell them at most places with the miscellaneous tools. Cheap ones all the way up to way overpriced folding ones. I got mine as a consolation prize on another online event.
Gotta go get ready to catch some money fish now!...and change my screen name to Chris 'p' creme!

That means the crappie contest is a go and we just need one more entry in the 25" any species slot contest for it to be a go! Don't tell me no one here will catch a 22-25" fish this April!

last day to enter for april is today!
both contests eddie and i are in are good to go meeting the minimum required entries of 6. that's 6 guys each playing for 100 bucks in two separate categories! If the entries reach 10, i think the pot gets bumped to $200!
doesn't anyone want revenge on eddie for all the wins he got on the njf jice contests!?!?
