Left the ice gear in the garage this morning and dusted off the rods for some open water fishing. Drifted shiners and was rewarded with 2 fish, one at 29" and another at 27". Both were thick with very nice coloration, as they usually do this time of year. Surface temps still very cold, so it'll be a bit before it turns on for good

Those are two great looking fish and equally great looking pictures. You should send them to Paul Tarlowe at the NJ. Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Open water fishing is on it's way! I don't know when but it'll be here before we know it. Skunks cold weather catch is a sign of the positive things that are yet to come. Way to get your line tight buddy. Beautiful PIKE!:D

Nice work Rob. I had a feeling you were out there today. On my way home from work I drove past a couple of deep pools in the river that looked pretty fishy lol. Gotta get my gear ready and get out there. I like the waders you have on in the pics. They look nice and warm.

Thanks Anthony. Actually, the waders are not neoprene, so even with 3 layers on under them, the mid 30's water temperature was COLD on my legs lol.
