Saw the gauge at the old calco dam at 24.57.
Is it too early for the striper run?

Stripers won't be around till mid to late May. You are better off fishing for trout this time of year. As quoted from the 2014 NJ Fishing Digest "....during the spring as proven at the Island Farm Fish Weir fish ladder where in recent years up to 200 trout were recorded by video cameras as they travelling UP the ladder."

That's a sweeeeet bow. Yet to catch one over there... Does that area become "closed" during the states trout stockings?

Not where that one was caught.;)
That's why we fished there because all the upstream water was closed.

River is wide open to fishing year round BELOW the Rt. 206 bridge in Somerville/Raritan boarder.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to hook up with something between deadbaiting or throwing lures. The Raritan has to be cleaner than the Passaic so I think more of the:cool: fish would follow their nose to the fresher water.
Was on the Passaic today and landed a 6lb striper on an 8" jerkbait. Nothing on dead or live bait though. So they are running, and biting.

Esox, When you left I got this guy. How big do you think it is? I didnt think they would be the river now.

Hahaa!! Nice catch bro!! Looks like the same one I hooked, lol. I take that was caught on a lure...any luck with the bait?

Also, have seen pics of guys catching big stripers right now outta Oyster Creek, if anyone's looking.

Actually, I got it on a live shiner. It was probably the same one you caught lol.

Good to see some stripes. Way to go boys.

I'd imagine we are gonna see some high water for a while with all this stuff melting away. Let's hope the rain stays under control until it's all gone...we don't need terrential downpours on top of this stuff.

We need these same water levels in a few weeks when the water temps are up in the 40's!
