The winners of the 2014 Skillful Angler Awards Program have been announced by the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife. The program honors anglers who catch both freshwater and marine fish that are not quite record size, but are large enough to be worthy of recognition.
For more information about the winners of each category and their catch, visit http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/skwinn14.htm . Anglers should also note changes to the program in 2014 and 2015 - for more information visit http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/skflang.htm on the Division's website.

Thanks guy! Mikey and Eddie form-tackled that monster as it reared its gorgeous, prehistoric head from the ice... A sight to behold for sure! Lots of teamwork landed that fish without a doubt...

They called me that application was in but I needed to send them another 1 thing I missed. I sent it the next day. Probably they put it a side and then didn't put the 2 and 2 together. Bummer

NJF is the Yankees of fishing forums. With attention like that, it's even more important to uphold a certain level of etiquette, for pretentiousness and especially to other "Yankees". IMO, you hit a homer with that fish. But struck out with the, less than stellar, remarks defending it. You never know just who is reading the threads on this forum, so always be aware you are being looked at. And to the Yankees that did make the list, CONGRATS!! Good to see our stripes up there! Tight linez fellaz, and swing for the fences!!

I suspect you are referring to me and trying to say that someone from the agency would not put it on the list out of spite. First of all, they asked me to submit the application in the first place as I was not going to do it. Secondly, I have nothing but respect to fisheries and people who fish. Pardon me for defending my catch and against certain remarks people made towards me because they don't know me. I get it and hold no grudges. I am sure you had to defend your catches from time to time as well. So now should I start to belittle your catches and reduce myself to 5th grade level?

Planning to. But being listed as a skillful angler is not a Win of sorts. Many members of this site would qualify if they only took to,e to do it. I'm not better than any of you, just fortunate on a given day

Wait, you didn't want to enter the contest but you are wondering why you didn't get the press, so you are going to call DFW to find out? If this award "is not a win of sorts" in your words, why do you care?

Cpr, read previous threads. I've been accused of many things, cursed up and down and yet found a few who supported me. Why the animosity? Why do you guys care anyway? Who cares if I entered the fish into a skillful angler? Could as well have been a 1 lb sunny or a 3 lb bullhead. Just cause the fish was a musky? Really?

Its a nice idea to reward those who release large fish but they make it so you have to handle them & keep them out of the water to get the measure shots to qualify. Sort of goes against the idea of C&R which is to let them go ASAP. I think a side view photo is fine. Its not like you win money and have to verify the size. Its suppose to be for fun.
