Was lucky enough to get out on White Lake this Saturday with my Valentine (her idea!!!) for a few hours. Being as it was our first time ice fishing WL and only our second time there, we had to make lots of holes to find some fish. 5 tip-ups spread out in multiple spots didn't even get a sniff, while the Jigging Queen was getting it done. She landed 2 Pickerel and lost a 3rd. First one was a FAT 25 1/4" female that fought very nicely on her light action jigging rod and 4lb test, biggest Pickerel I've seen landed in person this year. Despite the snow and temperature in the teens, she handled it like a seasoned ice fisherwoman, even picking out spots and dropoffs from what she remembered when kayaking there over the summer. I've got to say, I am VERY lucky!!! A few pictures...

You've scored big time pal! Rather than "when the f&$@ will you be home?"texts, you'll be getting "wtf, why didn't you take me?"texts lol...

Good stuff! And sweet slimer!

Congrats on that BIG pick!! Looks some some good catchin, both of you........ ;)

Funny cause the wifey picked me up a new rod / reel combo for Valentine's. First thing I asked her was, can we go try it out? She looked out the window and said , your going alone, lol. I can get her out in the summer, but winters a no go, lol.........

I love seeing people new to ice or any other angling have nice catches to start out with. My first pike, sandblisters bass n pickerel, a slob channel cat and now some nice pickerel. That's how we all get sucked in to this cruel and physically punishing yet awesome hobby. Tight lines to all, may the fish always be big.

Really nice pickerel. Imagine with WL's depths, you could really get lost ice fishing out there. You must know that lake from open water fishing.

Thanks for the kind words guys. She's definitely a keeper :D.

Bruce, we kayaked it once over the summer and being that the water is so clear there, it's pretty easy to see where the dropoffs are. That, and the map I have from the NJ Lake Survey book helped a bit. Not many reports out of that place though...
