Anyone out there these days? Reports died off in the last 2 weeks. I know the fish are still eating. personally have not had a chance, poor weekend weather, seasonal work and sick kids...
Counting days until I can get to the water again.

I went to Round Valley about a day ago for some night fishing. Caught two small largemouths (before sun set) and two bullhead catfish after sunset. bigger bullhead was over a pound.
I'll try Spruce Run next week for night fishing.

Nice, have had a tough time with bigger largemouth over at RV - always seem to be in the 10-14" range. I assume the lunkers are sitting on deep structure somewhere in the lake. They have to be there somewhere, no? Lake has too much forage - stockies, herring, shiners, craws etc
Same techniques / bat for both LM and cats?

Was at RV on Tuesday night.
Didn't post a report since server went down at work so been busy like no tomorrow.
But all I got was two smallmouth (very small), one pickerel and one channel cat. Size was small nothing to brag about and released all of them.
Work will keep me up till late so it will be awhile before I break free again. Only thing I am looking toward is hitting up Lockport on weekends for some stellie, late salmon and trout fishing.

I used a crankbait on an ultralight rod for the bass (they were in that 10-14 inch range like you said) and for the bullheads chicken livers on bigger medium action rods.
It seemed very deep where i was fishing. is the main launch area a bit shallower?
Also wanted to try the Ranger's cove or second launch area on Round Valley (not sure what it's real name is). it's further southwest of the two main launches at the northwest side of the lake.

Yeps ... try the boat ramp first ....got tired very quickly and relocated. So went to beach side .... lost one from the get go ...cursed up a storm and ordered some Chinese food to be delivered to me ...surprised they actually did ... but no forks, or spoon ...lol ....

I've been hitting Round Valley pretty much every day for the past three weeks. Picking off Trout from the shoreline almost each trip, tried trolling on the boat for a little while one day last week but didn't get anything (Was only able to troll around for about 45 minutes before it got dark though).

Fished Spruce tuesday night with Jigman and it was Slooooooow for us.
Not sure why but thats the way it goes sometimes....
I caught one Largemouth on a shiner about 15/16 inch and one tiny bullhead on a liver. Both fish just gave a couple small taps and then nothing. When I went to reel in to check my baits they were both on LOL. The LM didn't even fight just came in with a few small tugs and then just rolled over and came in. Fish was quite cold to the touch so was curious what the water temps were but haven't been out on it with my boat in about three weeks.
Word to the wise, WATCH out for that mud!!! I was walking around looking for another spot where I saw some fish busting and started walking closer to the water and before I knew it I was STUCK!!! Almost pulled my hips out of their sockets trying to get out and then sure enough I fall! Flat on my back in the shit mud!!! Yelling to Jeremy for a LITTLE help but he didn't hear me so then rolled over and was elbow deep in it to finally get myself free SUCKED BIG TIME!!!!!!!

Getanet - needed a pic of that one, sounds pretty funny actually no offense
Andre - well done on the Chinese delivery, might be be best fishing tip I've heard in sometime

Mud / Andre - you guys have success with the livers on rv at all? Mud sounds like you've been using em. Rv has been a tougher lake for me to figure out. Need to invest more time over there

Nope, just been casting lures and fly fishing the shoreline the past few weeks.

Lol... Luckily the mud dried by the time we left! I knew I heard something off in the distance but couldn't make out what he was saying. I later learned he was saying help... Soggy bottom at it again!
Good times nonetheless! Wish the action was better though. Maybe the livers I had were off? Do wipers and cats prefer Perdue and Tyson over other varieties? Haha...

Yesterday, wading RVR’s eastern shore, on a Yo Zuri Pins Magnet Minnow baby trout pattern:
A couple of little smallies, 20” football rainbow & 24” very slim brown.
I couldn’t revive the rainbow. Gave it to an angler @ the boat ramp.

Still have no tried livers at RV but they should work on the Beach side.
RV is a hard one for me as well, just trying to run into Zach there so he can show me how its done ...lol...
Figured if I cannot get any trout there, would get them upstate and we were killing them there all weekend long.
Seven hour drive is a killa though.

Dropped by Spruce Run Saturday evening. It was about 45 degrees and fairly windy. I work long days indoors and didn't realize how early it gets dark now until after I got out on the water. Had I known it gets dark at like 5:00, I wouldn't have bothered going out that late.
There were about a half-dozen anglers fishing the shoreline and maybe four boats out on the water.
At the boat ramp I ran into GetANet loading up his boat.
I launched and in the two hours I fished I only caught-and-released two Hybrid Stripers. One was small and the other was pretty big. Both were caught using my patented homemade pickled monkey-ass bait.
When I was packing up for the night I was talking to the guy I often see down there with the big boat with the fly jerk machines. He had a slow day, too.
I was damn cold out there that evening. I don't own a dry suit and I think this is going to be my last day in the kayak until next spring. Its just too cold and too dangerous to be out there now.

One word described sat: SUCKED! Been having some motor issues as of late and really went up to run the motor as well as wet a line. Motor ran decent at first then got fussy, Fished a bit but really did more riding around looking at the depthfinder since it sure as hell wasn't a fishfinder on sat. I looked in several different places and didn't see much of anything fish here and there a little bait here and there. I did see a few guys catch a few fish jigging Binsky's. Water temp was about 50 degrees so they should still bite for a little while longer but it was another spruce goose for me. No sweat though had some great days there this year so no complaints here..... Was giving it a quick tally in my head and easily close to a hundred hybrids this year from the begining of the year till now, those ten and fives and two's and three's all add up but believe me I have put an insane amount of hours on her this year. I was there at least once if not twice a week for almost this entire year. Learned quite a bit and some new spots to fish there this year. And if I don't fish there anymore this year I just wanted to say: Thank You Spruce for another fantastic year!!!!!

Went to SR for the first time today for catfishing (11/11/2014). Caught two small perch and a 10" Hybrid Striped Bass before the sun set. That was my first hybrid bass caught and I was really happy about that. After sun set caught a decent 16.5" channel cat and then a small bullhead. Kept the channel cat and released everything else.
Something was definitely biting on this night - whatever it was they were stripping my larger hooks of bait. switched to small hooks and caught that small bullhead catfish so maybe they were a school of bullheads, or more likely crayfish. They kept on pestering me until 8:30-pm when i ran out of bait and went home. Didn't get to the famous 9pm and after bite time that everyone's been getting at SR. Still had fun, it's a good reservoir!

SR - 11/11 Night. Tough bite lat night, 2 small hybrids on slip bobbers. Down rod went a couple times but no hook sets. Spent 3 hours on the lake, and called it. Beautiful night, calm quite and relatively warm. Hopefully can get a couple more trips in before the cold sets in and the water levels rise.
SR Still dropping....

Water temperature is still not that cold yet so I am pretty sure we still have couple of weeks left of some good fishing.
Probably will head over there on Thursday night and see whats been going on.
Was forced to go saltwater fishing last night for strippers on a boat () Fished from 7 till 11 on Prowler V out of Atlantic Highlands and I think we got like 4 for the whole boat (around 30 of us) I am not sure since I only saw 2 keepers. Was a good night to fish but just were not able to land on a school of them.

There's a boat that targets strippers?!?! Dollar bill jigs, lap dance plugs, and "you has nice eyes" darters??? PM the boats info if they're not a sponsor lol...
Kidding... Sounds like a tough nite.

Oh man don't make me laugh .... but yeah it was a tough nite for sure just another reason for me to stick to freshwater (like I need any)
I did manage to hook into something and have my line snap but in all honesty it was probably a rock .... I seem to be finding them everywhere lately...

Whats everyones liver tricks? I've been following andre's advice with the small rubber bands - stolen from my kids rainbow loom :D. Curious what else you guys do to keep the suckers on the hook. Not interested in using trebles....
I've also only caught hybrids and cats on them thus far. Person last night said they've covered the full spectrum with livers LMB, Crappies, Trout, Hybrids etc.

I used string a few times. do the rubber bands work well too? I'll have to try that out. tying string on livers gets messy.

LoL,
If you don't want to use the bands or strings ....you can always have the softer part go all the through the eye of the hook, wrap the liver a bit around the hook and then the harder part set on the hook itself ...usually stays longs enough to get something...
So far we caught only catfish, hybrids and perch on the lives. My friend was convinced he had a pickerel or pike as well but I highly doubt that claim.

Waxed floss... The knots hold well, just don't tie it too fast or too tight. It'll slice thru the liver. Tie as if you're wrapping ribbon or string around a gift or parcel. It's not fail proof, but it def helps hold the liver in place on the hook. I prefer this over rubbers bands bc you can control the tension it puts on the liver. And don't get the mint kind lol... Mmmm... Minty liver. Haha...
There's a few other useful tricks too.. You just hafta experiment with what works best for you.

Rubber bands are good enough, far from perfect. I love it when it snaps back and flings liver juice in your face. I tried cheesecloth but seemed to chase away the whipers with it... only cats on cheesecloth
Andre - what size hooks are you using?
