I drove to a spot to do some fishing in morris county. When I got there the pullin was blocked with chains and cement blocks and there were yellow signs saying private property. Anyone know where I'm talking about and why it's closed? I don't wanna burn the spot, even though it's kinda public. Pm me if you'd like and I'll explain where I'm talking about.

I have no idea what spot you're referring to, but if it's private property then it is what it is.
It's the public's right to travel navigable waterways, but the land on each side of the river and even the land beneath the river can still be private property.

in morris county you can easily see who owns the property at https://morrisgisapps.co.morris.nj.us/apps/parcelsearcher/
most counties have similar GIS resources these days

If its where I think, that spot is Essex County Park property. Of course it might be good to close it to keep the riff raff out of there who tear up the place with ATV's and their pickup trucks. Could be great fishing with less access. Just need to park nearby on public land and walk a mile or so :)
Its also a pike stocking point so I know its public. They are not stocking on private land.

This is the map to use. Just zoom in, click on the parcel and you get a pop-up telling you ownership. Easy.

Just read a different thread regarding this topic........... :p
Sounds like some sour grapes to me, lol. With no signs up, how is there to know why it's been closed off? I've heard rumors that it's only being closed for the winter to prevent any possible accidents? I remember reading about some people falling through ice on the river last year?
Best part is, that spot is still easily accessible. Especially by boat, or............. Kayak. :D:p:D
pretty sure I know what other post you are talking about. lots of guys bitching and moaning and it might not even be a permanent close. if they had their way we'd still be living like little house on the prairie with no internet  kayakers are not the problem.

If it's the spot I think it is, it is apparently private property. Funny that some people are blaming kayak fishermen. I've driven past that spot for years and have seen recreational canoers, dog owners having their dogs fetch sticks in the water and shore fishermen. Maybe the owner got fed up with all of that.

For the amount of time that has been open to the public, I was shocked to learn it was private property, i just assumed the state or county owned it

Yea, goddam fishermen who catch fish are the reason they closed it up.
