Hey all,

I know this topic is a little bit of the main topics on this board but hey why not go ahead and share some.

We all know that as fishermen we are a superstitious bunch so what superstitions if any you all have.

Ill start it off.

I don't know why but the superstition that I have is to never let the first fish caught go before catching the next one no matter how small it is. I know its weird and if fish is small it does put a little more stress on fish than needed but I just cant do it. Everytime I let the first one go end up not catching anything for the rest of my time fishing. Period. Not a single more fish and it been tested many times and always ended up true for me.

Please note that if fish is small it is kept healthy and alive until the next one is caught and so far I have not lost a single one.

Feel free to share yours

Andre

This might sound crazy but my buddy and I listened to Eminem on the way to a fishing trip that turned out to be one of the worst fishing days of our lives... Since then no more Mr. Mathers on angling days

Lol,

Keep them coming.

Second one I have if a fish snaps my line or spits the hook or anything else that cause me to loose it, I pack up my stuff and change location. Never been able to land fish at the same location after that happens. Its like fish tells his buddies to watch out and afterward they are gone.

Never keeping the first fish... 1.) I believe in good karma and 2.) I support catch and release unless I'm parlaying panfish and stockies into larger specimens!

And to always have one of my two Yankee hats on except for ice fishing... Too damn cold for a baseball hat once temps are in the 30s!

i don't care how late i am, if i catch a fish on the last cast, i have to give it at least three more casts. if i catch a fish on one of those, another three. this can go on for a while sometimes.

if i'm not getting any bites, taking eyes and hand off the rod (no peeking!) to adjust the trolling motor is usually all it takes to produce a missed strike.

Believe it or not, I make it a habit of bringing bannanas, Tom loves them and we have had some of our best day with bananas on the boat.

I hear you all.

Like I mentioned if its small I am not keeping it after catching the next, it will get released. If I don't catch anything then it would be a first for me. I only don't catch anything when I do release it. Don't know why but always held true for me.

That's awesome all keep them coming.

I have superstitions about a few things, such as when I played baseball (I never washed my uniform after I had a good game), softball (three always three practice swings as I reach the plate), bowling (always wiping the ball, even if there is no oil on it), not stepping on sidewalk cracks (well it took years but I did get over that one eventually) and not getting out of bed if the clock reads xx:13. But I don't have a single superstition that I can think of when it comes to fishing. Maybe I need to develop one because I've not had a particularly good summer of fishing and the fall hasn't started out so hot either.

Be careful with that practice... although some species such as bullheads, white catfish, most sunnies, etc. have no minimum size limit, any species that does and is undersize must be released unharmed immediately.

gotta have my own gear.i don't care if we are fishing for sunnies or muskys, gotta have my stuff.i have gone out many times with peeps on a 'sper of the moment" thing and have used their gear{good stuff]and just can't catch.

I know you are right of course. In all the fairness it doesn't take long between first and second but you are correct I am walking a thin line there. 98% of the times the first one caught is not size limit fish but its been time when there were fish caught that do have a size limit.

I'm also very superstitious about posting the exact locations of where I'm fishing b/c of lurkers on fishing forums and exposing success to bucket brigaders who rape our watersheds, killing everything they catch.

I usually have to give it at least 5 more casts!

Try not to catch a fish on the very first cast...will jinx the rest of the trip;)
