Back again,
Eddie, you were right. Hybrid addiction developed quickly. Back to action to Spruce Run. Now it comes to the point that I don't even take my gear out from a car anymore. Get up at 7, work, leave at 6 and back to fishing I go. Best way to release the stress.
So back to the report.
Fished from: 7:30pm till 12:30pm
Bait used: Live shiners, chicken leavers and clams.
A night before I scouted out a spot I wanted to try out for the shiners so I was ready with everything that I could possibly have for my night. Got to the Spruce run and wtf park was closed. I couldn't get out to my spot from night before and couldn't get out to a spot from last week. Gates were locked. I saw a sign that says park closed at 6 but its first time I actually seen it being closed. Only way to go was to boat launch area so of there I went. Thanks to reports of the mud and muck around the area I knew what to expect and navigated safely to the shore line without damage. One line used a shiner and 3 others were all bottom on the livers. Man I understand people who don't want to use shiners and wait for action and want to work for their fish but man I worked for every fish I got last night running from rod to rod and wishing I had more hands when two rods were going off at the same time. I couldn't get a bite on a shiner for the love of me. Nothing all night long. Just saw a bobber going down once and that's it. Later at night I switched to liver but still using a bobber. First to go down was an 18 inch white cat around a 1.5lbs. Alright, Alright, Alright action was one. By the shore line I have found some clams, or mollusk or whatever they have there. Thinking that best way to catch something is to use what the place offers I scooped them up and rebaited the bottoms rigs. Call was right on that one. Was trying to hook one when one of the other rods started to literally scream. Dropped the one I was holding and ran like a maniac to hook whatever was there. Fish on and that was no cat. Runs were long and some aerial acrobatics were displayed for my pleasure. 21 Inch hybrid at around 2lbs. Once I was finished with him another rod started to go crazy. Back to action. Even heavier that a previous one. I was hooked just like that fish on my line. Got it almost to the shore trying to see what it as when it made a last desperate attempt to get away into some loose rocks and 12lbs line was snapped. This night action picked up after 9:30pm and I simply just could not leave. Total for the night were as follows: 7 white cats - Biggest was 26 inches and around 4lbs. 3 Hybrids - Biggest 21 inches and around 2lbs and one lonely American Eel.
Overall great night, great weather conditions I couldn't ask for anything else. Coming back on Thursday Night and then back to salmon on Weekends.
Yours Truly,
Andre.

Wow, that's dedication. You definitely have more patience than I do. If I don't get a bite in like 20 minutes I get up and leave.
Hey, I don't want to see you get any expensive tickets, so I just want to copy & paste some of the NJ freshwater fishing laws:
You mentioned you had four rods rigged out. The state law limits you to three:
It is unlawful to possess or use any fishing device with more than nine hooks in total, or more than three treble hooks. When fishing from the shoreline, no more than three fishing rods, handlines or combination thereof maybe used.

Also, I don't know what you keep and what you released, but hybrid striped bass have their own creel limits:
Hybrid Striped Bass

Season: Open year round
Minimum Size: 16 inches
Daily Limit: 2

Oops that was an error. 12:30am I meant. Otherwise it would mean I am still out there.

Thanks on the rods heads up. I actually thought we were limited to 6 but now I know I was wrong. For hybrids I don't keep anything below 20 inches and same goes for the cats. Sizes I caught were 21, 14 and 12. Felt sorry for the smaller one since he swallowed the hook pretty deep so to give him the best chance just cut my line and left the hook in him. Hopefully he will survive.

Great job Andre. If you need help with all the action, let me know and I'll take it off your hands;). Get that camera fixed or atleast get a camera phone!

LoL. I cant stand smartphones for some reason. Probably because I kept on breaking them. As far as action goes you know you always welcome to join. There is fish for everyone to enjoy. Just a heads up I am not fishing without a bottle of Jack. Just a superstition that I have.

Haha yeah I know I am always welcome with you. I am just more of a morning fisherman (don't know how you deal with the bugs and lighting especially at Farrington). Maybe one of these days I will take you up on a trip to Spruce since I have never been there. And hey you can have bottles of whatever you want as long as it brings the luck.

Bugs don't like the smell of pine so that always helped. And lighting ...man lighting show at spruce last night was something else ... loved it.... I wish I could fish in morning but the job wont let me .... and bottle always works for me...

Yeah I only fish the morning on my days off. I will start giving night trips a chance. I would invite ya out on the boat, but I know you hate em. So what do you usually use for lighting when you dont have mother nature lighting the sky for you?

good job man told you the liver does the trick haha and ryanmac i fish at night a lot and the easiest things are little glow sticks that clip to you rod tip or bobber and a headlamp or lantern by where you are set up
Andrushkin33
10-23-2014, 09:25 AM
For lighting ...
Easy head lamp does all the tricks. As far as rods go I actually don't like putting the glowsticks on the tip. I usually let a little slack out of my line and hang a glowstick with the bell toward the bottom. Works like a charm.
I knew they would work for catfish but was surprised about the hybrids. But hey clams worked for hybrids even better.

I am telling you. I found some along the shore line and used them for bait and it worked like a charm.
Rain should stop after 4pm today so if that will hold true I am heading out tonight. Probably will be out there anytime between 7 and 8 pm and see how the night will go from there.

Andre, great reporting bro!!! I have to meet you up there one day after work.

I actually found a solid path of mud that took me the shore line by the kayak launch so that's where most likely I will be heading tonight. But two day rains might make it a bit more treacherous so I will see.
It stopped raining so I am going for sure now.
Mond,
Thanks man. I am pretty much around 3-4 nights a week but in different places. That's my stress relieve and works like charm.

nice do you wade out and cast there or just rip it from shore? i used to wade out but i dunno now with the mud thats why the other side is good cause it drops straight off to about 25 ft not to far from shore now with the water being so low
Andrushkin33
10-23-2014, 06:13 PM
Just cast from the shore. No wadding that's for salmon only for me now.
If the park is open I might head toward the pier ....rather be on rocks than in mud.

Long time reader, first post. Been at sr for 5 or 6 sat sunrises fishing shiners from shore. After reading your post will likely mix it up this weekend, picked up chic livers today - excited to try em. Got this guy from shore last weekend, will see what we can grab this one
Great post Andre, got me excited to head out there - want a hybrid!

That's awesome catch. I have not caught anything on shiners there yet but that's just me scouting the area.
Rangers,
Don't tell me you got scared of a little rain and wind last night man. I tried the boat rental area my first night out there. Was not that lucky.

Shiners at sr have brought channels, crappie, pike and a few bass this season. Have done just as well w rapalas and tube baits. Usually fish boat rental or parking area by tower near entrance.
This is why i love the mornings out on the lake, last weekend. But im out there to fish as well, headlamps it is!

Lol ... probably for the best ... I never go without my trusty bottle so you would not be able to drive back if you ran into me.
Someone did come at around 1am when I was leaving when weather was perfect.
