And another update for the Night Fishing.

Time: 7:30 pm till 11 pm

Bait: Shinners

Set Up: Slip bobbers

So after two nights at Round Valley decided to come back and visit my honey holes at Farrington Lakes. Was glad and surprised to see that water level rose. Also saw that one of my sweet spots was being fished. Once again after 8 pm fishing picked up. First to fall for my shiner was a crappy. Swallowed the hook really deep so there was no chance of me saving him and was forced to keep it. About 15 minutes later another solid bite and this time I knew it was something bigger. Turns out to be a solid catfish around 1.5lbs. Around 9:30 pm moved to a different spot and another solid hit. That was pickerel for sure and this time I was not about to loose it like it happened a night before at Round Valley. Well I almost did loose it. After bringing it to shore with a last push it managed to snap my line again. Lucky for me my friend grabbed it before it fell back into the waters. Was about 25 inches and around 3lbs. Perfect ending to a boring day at work. Fish porn below.

P.S. Like mentioned crappie could not be saved so I was forced to keep him.

That's a nice size Pickerel. I got a bunch around the same size ice fishing the swimming side at Round Valley this past winter

Thanks guys,

Zach,

I know man you pretty much own Round Valley. Your reports and insight are the things that keeps me trying to figure that place out. Keep them coming.

Ryan,

You know I have love/hate relationship with Farrington. Went to HS in East Brunswick so it was a place to go. Only thing I can say I never left that place without a fish and since water is low kinda giving me more insight on where they be hiding. Now all I need is to find where those bass be hiding besides the Riva bridge hole.

You mean at riva and church. Is that why those old guys are always there whenever I launch? Ive never seen them catch anything except almost me a couple times when im coming back from the other side (even when I give a heads up) they barely hold theyre line in the water so I figured they were just messing for sunnies and staying away from their wives lol..as for the lake, we have a love hate relationship too. I hate it and it loves to keep me coming back lol

Nice fish man. I'm pretty sure that's a white catfish. I caught a monstrosity of a white kitty out of Farrington when I used to live down there. The state record was caught just down the road at the Dallenbach Pond's. Anyone have any thoughts about the fish ID?

Thanks. You know I am not sure. I thought the white cat was not really nocturnal and more of a day one so I was thinking it was a channel cat.

I could be wrong though. Was too happy about the pickerel since its like the second one of the decent size that I pulled out from there.

Nice job Andrushkin.

I fished it from boat today and it was pickerel and perch fest hitting jerks. Couldn't buy a bass bite. Water was up from a couple of weeks ago.

Looks like a White Cat to me, judging from the tail not being deeply forked like Channels have. Didn't really notice it at first though

Agreed Zach. Thanks for the help with the ID. I've done a lot of catfishing and I haven't seen too many white cats. It's a cool catch. I know that some of those Middlesex County waters have better populations than other places.

Good catch dude. Looks like a productive evening on the water. I've jigged up quite a few of those White Cats through the ice at Swartswood. The damn cat pulls just like a Walleye through the ice. I say fry em up. :D

I didn't notice until you pointed it out.
I would have to see the shape of the nose to make a confident ID, but judging by that tail, it could very well be a large White Bullhead Catfish.

Eskimo,

Sorry I did not take a better picture. I took a bunch but only the one I posted came out better the others.

But as far as doing some research on the subject, I can pretty much stake a case of anyones favorite brew on the fact that it was a white catfish.

Like mentioned one thing that threw me off is the fact that fish was hooked at night so I never gave a doubt that it was a channel cat.

Thanks to all for pointing out.

i fished farrington yesterday afternoon for a few hours from my yak. caught a lonely pickerel the whole time, musta dropped the chatterbait right on his head cause it was the only sniff I got all day. water was lower than when I saw it a month ago, I thought some of yous were saying the water was higher??

I did. When I was night fishing water level was much higher than two weeks before. Was easy to tell since I left some markers on the shore line which were under water when I have returned. So yea it was higher but not as high as it was in June. Coming back tonight so update will be posted tomorrow. Hopefully with some fish porn
