I haven't fished the river in about 3 weeks due to work and had a small window yesterday at around noon. I hit a spot that has produced between 5 and 15 pike just about every trip since June.

Perfect conditions and with a hard bottom in this section, the water was very clear. about 90 minutes without as much as a tap !! The leaves were a slight problem, but not enough to use as an excuse.

The good news is that I must have seen about 6 quality pike just sitting motionless near the bottom. There was a couple times that I actually casted and had the spinner bait pass inches from the fish and they didn't even move. The only way that I got them to move was to have the spinner bait hit the fish on the side while reeling in.

I even tried switching up to a soft plastic and twitched it inches from the fish, but still no interest.

I think it's time to devote all my time to deer hunting and striper fishing.

I hope to still read a few reports on the river and best of luck to those who get out !!!

I fished Saturday for a few hours mid day. Landed one and had 2 swings and misses. Also spotted at least 10 Pike sitting motionless in the shallows.

.

These cold, clear-sky days following a rain storm are often really non-productive days.

I tried my hand at the Delaware River Sunday evening. There were millions of baby shad splashing around, but not a single bass to be had.

I hit the river with my buddy for a few hours yesterday morning. No matter what I threw they were not having any of it.

Inactive fish of all species can drive a fisherman nuts..But Pike that u can see laying dormant on bottom mite fall for an old trick or 2 we used up north years ago..try a rubber leg jig heavy enough to hold bottom dress will a small creature type plastic dressing or 4 to 6 inch floating plastic worm, lob cast it to side of Pike reel slowly till lure resting a few inches from fish, dead stick the lure there for a few minutes just as if u we waiting for a hit with live bait, try 2 or 3 different colors..If more than 1 fish in the area repeat on other targets, if still no action and if there aren't any other fisherman in the area spook the area and the pike by slamming ur paddle on the surface of the water a few times note if the pike took off..It they did, have a #4 or #5 Mepps spinner ur favorite color handy, allow 10 mins or so for things to calm down then fan cast the area worth a try, keep in mind, u haven't been doing anything anyways, chances are the fish in that area are inactive also..Slashing wakes them up, hopefully they'll attack ur spinners..Used to work up north..Good luck, If u try let us know how u do...Slider

striper fishing on sand or kayak? I went a couple weeks ago and dragged some eels around at night, the bay was still filled with small bluefish and mullet but no bass around. from the sand I haven't been out yet, but it should be picking up really soon.

Phil.....it's only the kayak for me, I am not sure if I can even cast or fish standing up !! LOL

I had over 20 bass 2 weeks ago in the western sound of NY, but looking for a trip to Montauk, if the winds and surf hold up. Once mid November comes, it will all be out front in Monmouth County, right up until the end of December.

I've been on leave from work and I've got out almost everyday for a couple hours, all I have to show is 1 tiny pike that probably just stocked.

I got out friday and fished from about 4:15 until dark. Leaves a non-issue. Finding good spots was. Basically just flung my lures under trees to the far bank and every hit I got was within a few cranks of shore(about 10'). Its shocking to me how shallow that river really is when its gin clear. I can now walk out a good 20-30' feet and water isn't over my knees. Covered about 3/5 mile. Got 1 pike(28"), 2 bass(9",14"), hooked/lost two other pike and about 8 swipes/hits. Not bad considering how chilly that water was(60ish?). Could be my last. I'm a trout guy first and foremost and if we ever get more rain,. I'll be pursuing them. Easier to catch than pike, more places to catch them without dealing with numerous other anglers and nicer colors.

Beautiful stripper, must have been a blast out of a Yak...Don't think you'll be running into anything like that in Waywayanda or Aeroflex..Salmon maybe but not strippers there...LOL
