After targeting walleyes in Monksville for over a year, tonight I finally closed a chapter in what I thought was going to be a never ending saga. Everyone knows that lake sucks, but I would always run into someone who knew a dude that pulled a walleye out of that place. I've been drawn back there dozens of times on tidbits of info about a guy who knows a guy that gets eyes hear or there. I've logged 6 trips in the past 3 weeks getting there before dawn and fishing after work until midnight catching maybe a sunny. I actually saw a pair of women's underwear get caught off the bottom of that place. Well,,, tonight I finally broke the curse. I got 2 eyes at 17" and 20" and lost one at the net.

.

I am amazed. After decades of stocking, someone actually found a few gamefish residing in that aseptic swimming pool.

Your next mission is to find Bigfoot and take a picture with him.

North Jersey has a number of dead lakes. Some say it's the acidity (naturally occurring and exacerbated by acid rain). Others say it's the Copper naturally found in the rocks. I hiked out to a few lakes that have no road access expecting the lake to be overfilled with bass because the access was so difficult, only to find the lake completely barren of anything but tiny sunfish. An example of this would be Sunfish Pond in Worthington State Forest.

Haha, I've been telling everyone once I get one, I will finally have the "end all" excuse to never go back there again! I have a feeling I'll backing down that boat ramp again in the very near future.:D

Way to go!!! Sounds like your putting the pieces of that puzzle together quite nicely. Once you really dial in on them you should be able to go the same time each year with the tech's you learned and caught them on and repeat the Milestone Maybe it's a fall thing there????

I was there 2 weeks ago and did well too, 2eyes about the same size and some perch and crappies. IDK who keeps saying the place is full of bait but I beg to differ....greenwood and hopatcong got it beat hands down, I didnt see much bait at all actually and I was all over deep and shallow

First off, Congrats to ScowardNJ, a job well done and the patience of Job! Monksville is always like the "I'll never go back there" lake, but when you drive by the North and South ramps, it always beckons. Such a beautiful place. However, I can't help but refer to Eskimo's comments. I took the family last weekend to a lake in the middle of nowhere, just over the Jersey border in PA, that looked like Bass Nirvana Headquarters. The place looked like bass would just jump on your hook......nada.....not the nearest sign of fish activity except for minnows.

Stick to polluted waterways like the Passaic and you'll do just fine! :D
