Took a walk thru the Great Piece Meadow 2day startin from 2Bridges. Bagged a few smallies n a lil pike while on the troop. All on lures. 1st time actually fishin over there and have 2 say it's a very attractive place & I didn't have 2 get too deep for it to not look like the CRAZY Passaic River, which I've grown 2 luv anyway. It was a good day!

Pick yourself up a set of waders or wading boots and start bushwacking. We used to trek pretty far into the GPM on foot and catch pretty much everything, Pike, Bass, Perch, Crappie. Nice work man.

The bridges area has an interesting mix of fish, although that junction area receives a brutal amount of fishing pressure. I haven't been there in a while, mostly because I got tired of having to negotiate the crowd of fishermen standing under the bridge to launch my kayak.
Great Piece Meadows is a nice area...for a swamp. I've heard strange stories on the NJHunter that the land is either owned or managed by this shadowy anti-hunting group named Wildlife Preserves Incorporated. During hunting season, they put on ranger costumes and patrol the woods looking for hunters to harass in the sections of the preserve that don't allow hunting and sometimes in the sections that do.
They would like to ban fishermen from that section of the river, but so far they have been unsuccessful.
Here is a confusing map from their site of the areas where one can and can't hunt:

From their website:
Its land is administered as natural areas and wildlife sanctuaries for the protection of wild animals, plants, and their habitats and open to the public for passive recreational uses such as hiking, biking, bird watching, photography, nature observation and study, with prohibitions against hunting, fishing, trapping, dumping, and off-trail motor vehicles.

I'm not sure I would wear waders in that section of river. The bottom of that river is littered with horrifying pieces of rusting metal.
The chemicals in that water are kind of suspect, too.

Public Access and Uses:
The public is welcome to hike and fish on the preserve. Due to binding management agreements, general public hunting is not permitted.http://wildlifepreserves.org/gpmeadows.htm
7. Shoreline fishing on state land along the Passaic River is permitted.
Both websites say fishing(shore & boat) is okay and I've also gotten an email from them confirming this. However, the land is posted with the signs below which say no fishing. Its good for scaring off those who don't know any better:)
And PLEASE if you see the ATV hooligans riding around back there, call the number listed on the sign.
