Hey Guys,

Up at Spruce Run, beating the banks for bass when WHAM! Drag peeling, rod bent, I thought i had a beast of a LM or possibly a pike.

I reel in to see this beautiful creature about 5-6 LBs i'd say. Is catching catfish on a soft plastic bait odd? and is this a channel catfish or a white catfish?

I tried looking at the species identifier and they look very simlar.

Thanks !!

everything eats senkos. one time i caught even a cookie cutter stocker rainbow with the end of a 8" silver senko sticking out of its mouth

they're predatory fish... not too unusual. seems like everything DOES eat senkos!

The belly white carries high toward the lateral line and I don't see telltale spots to indicate channel although this fish has the pronounced "v" tail of a channel.
I would say channel. The white's have a lesser "v"

I too have caught catfish along with everything else that swims in freshwater on a senko. I imagine with catfish you pretty much need to hit them with it. I've also hooked one on a spinnerbait once.

Most of the cats I've caught the past few years have been while fishing for bass with a Senko, particularly the Swimsenko

Different species, but I have caught Eye's on senko's and spider grubs . Word on the street is Big Eyes in Co feed on crawfish .

Channel cat and no its not odd to hit a senko. I have caught them on rooster tails. They will eat any thing. but..... If you want a big one live live a small blue gill on a fish finder rig in a drop off where a feeder stream connects into a bigger body of water and hold on

.

Definitely a Channel Catfish. Fish and Game stocks them in there.

Channel cats are capable predators as well as scavengers. They can detect the vibrations of plastic bait and will attack it as quickly as any bass. I have caught plenty of channel cats while bass fishing with scented plastics.

I have landed Pike, Trout, Crappie, Perch and Sunfish on Senkos in addition to Bass. Very versatile. Nice catch!
