Hit the slab spot yesterday morning lookin for a couple to bring home for a bbq. Scooped up pops and hit the water early. First half hour was slow but turned around quickly. First 2 fish were decent Larry's around 2#. Funny it's the first time we were disappointed to catch bass instead of crappy, lol. Then we found em.

Caught about ten total. Kept 6 between 10-13". At one point I hooked a thick 14" and decided it was too big to keep and released it. Not long after, dad hooks up and I see his rod bent in half. Thought it was another bass until he got it in the net. 17" super slab!! Biggest I've ever seen even on TV, lol. Quick measure but no weight and back she went to pass on some good genetics, lol. Came home and looked it up and the state record is 18".....

Thumbs up on the return. It should feel lucky the bucket posse didn't catch it otherwise its dinner for sure.

Gotta be close to max length for NJ. If that was a female full of roe, could easlily top 4lbs

State record(4lbs 9 0z) pic:

Haha, not ALWAYS, but def lately. Top off that catch with a Dale Earnhardt Jr win at pocono and he had a pretty good day!!!

Buzz, I thought I saw a dif pic of the current state record from 2009? 18" and 3# 11oz........ Doesn't look quite as fat as that one but longer.

That was a White Crappie. Kind of looks like a Black to me although there are very faint bars:

I love slabs! Got myself a 17.5" beauty ice fishing pa a few years ago. Something I'll always remember. Thought it was a bass or pickerel then had to figure out how to get it out of an 8" hole. Wasn't easy http://i986.photobucket.com/albums/ae342/delawareriver/022.jpg (http://s986.photobucket.com/user/delawareriver/media/022.jpg.html)
