AYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The Flatheads are running'! Hit the bait spot around 3 in the afternoon and got what I needed including a 30 inch Pike. Not sure where this Pike came from but it was a nice surprise. Once I released the lil guy he stayed next to me for about an hour without moving so I fed him some crawlers. Nice pet Pike!
Hit the big river around 630 and had 2 run offs to start the evening. First fish landed was a 5lb Flathead, missed the 2nd, hard to manage two rods peeling drag at the same time. It slowed down after those 2 runs but as it got later and darker the invasive species started huntin'! Managed to land 6 more Flatheads up to 15lbs 9ozs. No fish under 5lbs on this adventure. 3 fish were between 5-7lbs, 3 fish were between 9-11lbs. The pool winner pictured went a nice 15lbs 9ozs. Big rivers are alive and well in NJ, go get em guys and gals.

YEA BUDDY!!! TIGHT LINEZ!!!!!:D

Included is a pic of my 30 inch pet Pike that didn't want to leave me after I released em. Isn't he cute?

I've considered the same thing. I've read as much as I can about the spawn, and regional info for NJ is scarce. I do know that they come in by the boatload where I fish at this time of year. Catching a dozen or more channels and flats starting @ 10lb is normal. Puts a great bend in that rod:D If anyone has detailed info on the NJ/Big D spawn cycle, I'd be interested to learn more.

That is a beast, but it makes one ugly goatee. Only Mr. Eddie could make friends with a pike. Nicely done.

Flatheads spawn mid June through mid July +/- week or two on weather. We always hammered them throughout may into early june, around 2nd to 3rd week of June fishing always died off with mostly little fish. When you did catch a larger one they would have spawning wounds, irritated fins, bellys, heads etc from building and protecting their nests. Mid July bite slowly picks back up till finally gets good September and early October.
