south branch Raritan camping?

Hello,

I am just trying to find out from the local knowledge base if there is anywhere to legally camp on the SBR. I see the Y runs camp caar, which appears to be a day camp. I also saw the south branch reservation brochure PDF which makes mention of camping but can't find any info on permits. Third I saw a Google heading for Dart mills campground, but that was all the info I could locate. If anyone has knowledge of the spots mentioned or others, your replies would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, you can camp at the Hunterdon YMCA Camp Carr. It's a great place, both trailer and tent sites all right on the river.

Darts Mills campground is there, its no longer in operation though. Its private property for now.

As far as legal by the book camping, i think you've named ur options.....
Similar to the delaware, do a float or two and scope out some possibilties.....
You know, quiet and away from any roads or houses.....As long as you don't make a ruckus or a huge bonfire , you should be good.....Do what i have done....
If ur approached while camping, play dumb, and say that ur not sure how far it was to ur take out point.....Cant exactly navigate the river in darkness....

You need to be careful on the South Branch of the Raritan, especially on the stretch from Readington to Three Bridges, there's been a rise in homeless encampments in that area. The local PDs, F&G and land owners are on alert!
