Bighead Carp
I've shot big heads. Definitely not a big head or silver carp. Has never been any documentation of either in nj

Asian!
Asian carp you mean? All carp are from Asia but the common name if Asian carp refer to a group of carp (silver, black, and big head) none have which have invaded new jersey yet thankfully

Wow - I would have dismissed that fish at first glance as a carp, but now that I'm checking fish ID charts, I'm thinking it's a Buffalo.

I have seen them in the Delaware river. Not thinking it is a big deal. Did have a guy come into Efingers many years ago with one of those nasty Asian Bighead carp things and I took it and personally drove to the F&G office with it. Best bet, see something strange, kill it, ask questions later, but do be careful when it comes to the Snakehead- Bowfin thing, I think a lot of Bowfin are being killed while people think they are Snakeheads.

I'm still going with my river carpsucker guess

But anything is possible. Buffalo are cool fish. Andy have any pictures of the buffs you have seen locally?

Yes I can see where the bowfin and snakeheads could be mixed up. Shape is almost the same but pattern and color is completely different. Isn't hard to tell the difference if people would actually learn the differences but they don't. Same thing with the flatheads, can't tell you how many spawning male channels or bullhead pictures I've seen labeled as flatheads. Other them being catfish they are very easy to tell differences.
You definitely never know what you will find in our waters. http://i986.photobucket.com/albums/ae342/delawareriver/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_15541507018177.jpeg (http://s986.photobucket.com/user/delawareriver/media/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_15541507018177.jpeg.html) an arowanna shot on a delaware river tributary a few weeks ago
