channel catfish from shore

I'm from maplewood and am trying get in on some channel cata...can anyone point me in the right direction..was thinking of Verona park or the Passaic but don't know where to start...

Raritan river, millstone river and DnR canal have some big channels. Pretty much any spot you can access
