Towards the end of last week I tried out a new area of a lake I've been to a few times. Hit the water around 6 and after a 30 min trip I made it to my spot. Started off throw in an inline spinner and a jerkbait. Couple casts in I hooked up with a nice pickerel and it was on from there. Action was almost nonstop with perch and picks. Couple of the picks launched themselves out of the water after the lure and a few others did some nice acrobatics!! Went back again over the weekend and found similar results. The pickerel were still thick and feisty but the perch seemed to have moved on. Must have caught 25-30 in the two days, no monsters, but Def a blast on 6# mono.......

Then today I went to take a look at the condition of the river in anticipation of the pike-a-thon. Still high, fast, and BROWN!! Hope it looks better by next week. :( Anyway, took a few casts anyway and ended up pullin out a nice smallie. Think he went about 18-19" but I didn't have the tape with me.....

It seems from Fairfield downstream is Smallie territory. Look for rocks, boulders, off-current pools, etc.

I was using 20# flouro with a clip. Some of the bigger ones nicked up the leader and I had to retie a few times but it held up. Lost a few to violent airborn headshakes, but no bite offs, lol.

And Eddie, I actually did have one inhale the spinner and took it right in the gills. I never really keep anything but this guy was bleedin all over so I kept it. Didn't try to fillet it, just took the head and tail off and de-slimmed it with lemon. Then I cleaned out the innards, seasoned it up and baked it for a bit. First time eating nj pickerel, not bad!! White flakey flesh, and no "swampy" taste..........

Wasn't out of the river, it was a reservoir fish. No new super powers to report just yet..... :D
