Got to the canal at 6:00 am at the locks armed with coffee and my usual soft plastics of choice. Water was fine and all levels returned to normal since the tow path breach. Couple of guys were fishing the locks and shared some fish pics. they left leaving the spot to myself. Was getting no love so started getting ready to go. Didn't want to face the skunk so grabbed the ultra light with a Mr Crappie jig. Thought I had a snag and grabbed the line to pull it free and to my surprise it pulled back! Game on! Drag was rippin and the spool isn't full! Kept up with it and adjusted drag as I went. Thank god someone pulled in the lot as it was happening! He grabbed my bucket with my lifting device for the wall. Landed! YEA MAN!!!! Still pumped!! Released to live on!
Now thinking about taking the family to a shoreline and chilling with some live bait! Anyone out at RV or Spruce today?

Must have been quite a battle on UL tackle.

Nice fish. I posted my muskie earlier today. Did you weigh it by any chance? Mine was very close in terms of size.

I didn't measure/weigh it as I only have a little cheapo scale/measure tape. The tape maxs out at 28" and I knew it was longer since it was nearly as long as my 4' Fenwick. I was too pumped to even care about size/weight honestly. It was truely an awesome adventure on the UL! I was only thinking 2 things. Please don't snap my rod, and please don't spool me! It was like a dance following the fish up and down the locks! I still can't believe it took that tiny jig!

Seems like a majority of guy's Muskies are by-catches on lighter tackle. Nice work getting her landed!

Totally know the felling about being to pumped to care at the time. I didn't even think to grab my scale at the time I just wanted a pic and release him as soon as possible. I just know how hard it is to land one of these.

Very cool. I've heard of a few little tigers coming out of the canal, but that's the first I've heard or seen a picture of a true strain. I just put my 2 cents in on the other thread about getting the weight of a musky. The length is really the only thing to worry about and putting a musky on a scale can do them harm. Good to see people releasing these fish. Congrats again, beautiful markings on that fish.

In looking closer, does anyone agree that this is a true muskie and not a tiger? Looking at various sites and they are saying the tail is more rounded on a tiger vs pointed on a barred variety of muskies

It is most certainly NOT a tiger. I put that in an earlier comment. Not sure if anyone ever said it was.
