Floated the lower South Branch Saturday. It was nice of Wilson to run shuttle for me. 1st cast by Rockafellows dam and I was already onto a nice smallmouth. From there on out it was a rainbow trout bonanza ! Despite the raging head wind and all the stuff falling off the trees I managed to bang rainbow trout from where I put to just about where I took out at the confluence of the North Branch, I lost count in the end. The rainbows were sitting in the fast runs. It was tough to fish the deeper pools, many over my head because the minute I stopped paddling I was getting blown around in circles. Lots of activity on the water, saw many other kayakers and ran into the Mohawk Canoe and Kayak Club. Can't help to think that maybe some day soon American Shad will be up in this river. Took me a grueling 7 hours to float, mostly because of the stiff head wind.

Sunday I went back to the South Branch, this time with a group of volunteers that ranged in age from 6 to 80. We beat it up pretty good, started at 9am and I wasn't off the water till around 6pm. 2 good finds were a moped and part of an ATM machine. I think we went OVER 120 tires for this 5 or 6 mile stretch of river starting at Rockafellows down to Blackpoint Rd. We'll be at it again at the end of the month, if interested just let me know. I took a few pics of some of the assorted piles.

That's an amazing collection of stuff and that's not even the floatables! I, for one, salute you. My collection of old monofilament, bait jars, and assorted garbage left by fishermen from along the streams is in no way comparable to your haul. Thank you for what you do.

On the lighter side....... Do those rainbows look big because your net is so small? LOL!

Great catching Cap'n!!! Looks like a great float. It's amazing how much you can get accomplished in a weekend. Great job on the clean up with the CJStream team. Rivers are getting better in our little state because of a handful of great people, volunteers. Maybe if more of us pitched in, things could get cleaned up a little faster!!!:D
