Get to the bait store the skies open up, lightning, ugggh.
Driving to the lake a big dog tick walking on the inside of my windshield, took care of that. Launched, set up on the East side, catch a lake trout and get a call, storms in the area. Pull anchor motor back by the boat ramp and anchor up in 35 ft. of water, get a smallmouth and lake trout in short order. Get a call, storms breaking up so I motor back to the East side and set up in about 80 ft. of water. Steady action. Lost count on lake trout and got 3 browns, 2@ 16in. and 1 @ 21". No pics - browns went back into the water fast as I could. Had to cut the line on the 21" brown because of where the hook was. It's a very small #8 light wire hook with no bait barbs on the back so the fish should be fine. New PB on the lake trout 27", here's a pic for ya acabtp. Bigfishy, my best brown trout days up there have been with bluebird skies, go figure. 7 trailers in the lot, and yet another boat with a jerking machine up there. Hope to get one more good weather day, only casualty so far has been the boat strap for the trailer, that went today.

Sounds like a great day fishing.

So somebody calls you when the weather changes?

There is a great app called NOAA Hi-Def Radar that does an excellent job of showing the weather around you. It's only like $2.
Here's a link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/noaa-hi-def-radar/id458225159?mt=8

Another nice day for ya. I've been thinking of going down there on my days off the past few weeks and I always procrastinated to the point where I wound up staying local. Maybe next week.

You getting those on herring or lures?

All fish on herring. I have a dumb phone so I have to rely on weather updates from other fellow NJF people, cell service is spotty at best there. I WON'T take a chance with lightning as I have been struck once and that was more than enough.

place is a battery drainer for sure! never has my phone died so quickly as it does when I'm up there. Airplane mode is a must.

Nice catching, Andy. Pretttty good week for you so far!

Sounds like you had a good week so far. Every body complains about the fighting ability of lake trout , but it looks likes a fish that size could put a nice bend in your rod I never caught one so I wouldn't know.
Do they reproduce naturally in there or is the population dependent on stocking?

AndyS

Yes, they do put a bend in the rod, like reeling in a cinder block. They are reproducing naturally in there, so much so the place is now infested with them.
