Wondering if I could get some help to ID a fish I've never seen before. I caught 2 of these in the Manasquan river on a worm. It was about 10 inches long, mostly silver in color and darker towards the top. It had a similar shap to a sucker, only it had a forward facing mouth and a thicker head. The odd thing was the 4 yellow spikes it had on its head. The pic is a close up of it's head. I've fished this river for over 30 years and have never seen one of these.
I did some internet searching and came up empty. You guys always come up with with the answers to these questions.
Thanks!

Interesting catch. I can't say exactly, but a lot of male minnows (cyprinidae) will grow horns (tubercles) on their heads during the breeding season.
Do you have any pics that show the entire body?

Looks like the head of a Fallfish but the pic makes it a little tough to determine.

That's the way I'm going with it, too.
I need some of those for bait. :-D
Here's a pic showing the body. Did it look like this?

We have a ton of dace in our creek, get horns like that when spawning....they look a lot like a chub, but usually have a darker lateral line
