A friend of mine asked about NJ kids fishing derbies for 2014. I haven't fished a derby in 30 years! Does anyone have any information on local derbies?

Check out manville rod and gunclub theyusually do one evrey year at their club located in manville on the millstone

Week long derby starts this weekend I think at Echo Lake in Mountainside. Its a rather large event. Good family fun!

Is that the one that knee deep club stocks???...If so they usually put in some large fish...My old stompin grounds there....The last few yrs , if i stop there its only to bass fish....

Awesome event!!! wish they would stock the upper lake like they did in the early nintees to help spread ppl out...

They hire the Musky trout hatchery to load up the lake. They put fish up to 10 lbs in for this derby. It's NUTZ! I was there when upper was stocked, those were the good old dayz. I'm sure we've bumped into each other somewhere on the water.

The Newark Bait and Fly Casting Club sponsors this event. You can register this saturday between 8am and 2pm by the gazebo. Contest starts this saturday and goes til May 2nd. I think every kid gets some kind of gift bag for entering. Google Echo Lake fishing derby, Mountainside. All the info you need is on the web!

I know there is a derby this weekend in Harding township at Bayne park and another one at the end of this month in Chatham township called Fishawack or something like that.

Fish it up.

I didn't receive a PM or email from you bud. I'll just reccomend getting there early to get a good spot along the wall. They stock some hefty fish like Browns, throw some phoebes and shiny spinners at them, hopefully you'll hook into a monster. If it's too crowded I cross the creek and fish the other side, not sure how old your kids are. Sometimes fishing the other side gives you a leg up once everyone starts casting and scaring the already skiddish Trout away. Good luck out there!
