Daiwa Lexa 300

Looking to pick up a pair of fluking reels to be matched with a pair of Shimano Compre Muskie rods (both 7' but one a H action & the other MH) that I picked up at Jersey Hooker over the winter. Mainly going to be bouncing bucktails with them.

Thinking of going with the Daiwa Lexa 300 with power handles. I'm also thinking of going with the lefty version even though I'm right handed). I prefer the 6.3:1 gear ratio models as opposed to the 7:1 models.

Any feedback, thoughts ?

I believe Rich has them in the store, I don't know if he has 2 lefty give him a call.
I picked up the lefty last year only used it a few times and I like it.

I purchased a new Lexa 300 over the winter from another member. I haven't fished it yet but it seems to be a solid reel. Will break it out this year for fluke and sea bass.

Yes, I spoke with Rich on Saturday. Once he gets the store up & running, I'm planning on bringing the rods in and placing the Lexa on both to get a feel.

Do you really feeling the HS (higher gear ratio) is necessary for fluking ?

I don't think it is, was more impressed with how light it is, balances nice on my rod.

You'll love it for fluking and even a good blackfish reel. But you may consider getting the lower speed. The 7.1 I felt doesn't have the power needed to bring up 8+oz and a decent sized fish. I think one of our sponsors was offering the lower speed ratio with the single power handle.

It's my favorite Andy & will soon be yours too. I use the lefty version for bucktailing so when I cast righty i don't have to keep switching hands back and forth.

On the Compre the entire setup will weigh less than one pound - no problem jiggin' all day :)

Thought I had Flukasaurus on it last year when a head shaking beast was fighting me straight up & down. Those heads shakes turned out to be wings flapping - a 40+ pound cow-nosed Ray that the Lexa bested in no time. I have the High Speed model and use it for everything but Tog. The lower gear model is probably better (there's a new 5.1:1 model) and the factory Power Handle works great.

I got it from one of our sponsors who matched an Internet price - have at it :)

I liked them until I fished the Abu Revo NACL . the Revo is a WAY nicer reel but also more expensive.

These outfits are basically going to be back-ups, so I don't feel the need to spend a lot. I might just buy one and ask for the second as a Father's Day gift.

the ones I have are the Lexa 30HS-P
which are the 7.1/1 with the power handles.

Agree on the Revo Toro Nacl, although I never fished a Lexa 300. The Revo Toro sells for $300. I know a tackle store who has a lefty in stock if you would like to PM me. You should check it out. And funny, I have the same exact Shimano Muskie medium and heavy you talked about. Both very nice!

If I weren't using these outfits as back-ups I'd give the Revo some serious consideration. But I can't justify buying a pair of $300 reels for back-ups.

we still have plenty lexa 300 reels with Free JW power handles. I used 7:1 gear ratio(only because of power handle) for 1 season now. but low gear ratio is much better.
