Just wanted to throw this on the table with tje recent warm temps and high winds it has cut alot of open water in the ice.with some cold nights coming itl re freeze and not knowing where all the open water was could lead to potentially dangerous situations. Alot of central located lakes have this going on right now...stay safe and becareful best bet is to head north even the small ponds that had a ft got opened up play your cards safe!

Your right about the open water the lake we fish locally was barely frozen on the edges sunday but once your were up on the main ice it was fine. Edges and springs are def two areas to watch for sure. We fished pretty far north this past weekend and it was the same way but the main ice was mad thick. A little soft on top but plenty of solid ice. I'll be carrying a 2X6 with me soon to access the ice if needed. Along with my ice picks, life vest, and rope. Just have to use common sense, what one person feels safe on may not be for you. One should ALWAYS have a spare set of clothing in their vehicle. I always have extra stuff just in case but took some stuff out of my truck trying to make room. Bad mistake. I ended up fishing the better part of this saturday with wet jeans socks and boots cause there was so much slop on the ice, causing me to quit earlier than I wanted too.
