I saw that boat on Craigslist too. You could only run one motor at a time on Round Valley. It says twin in the ad but it should just say two outboards. Sweet boat anyways....that thing is pretty loaded.

Why would anyone install twin 8 horsepower motors on a nice boat like that one if using both at the same time is illegal. Why not just a single 9.9hp

You'll actually see that setup at the Valley.....the extra motor is nice to have if you need it. I don't know why two 8 hp motors.....probably price or the dealer needed to unload two 8hp motors. I'd rather have two 9.9's myself.

A friend fo mine has a two 9.9 setup , has been runnin both
simultanious for yrs at RV and SR without a problem...
I've questioned the legality myself but like he says , if i'm never
gonna be ticketed or even warned for it than WHY NOT?

Regs say "Maximum motor size, 10 HP." Nothing listed as too how many... He may have one cranked down to run slow while trolling...

Seen the pic...Strange set up on that boat...

The old trick on the limited 9.9 hp lakes is to use a 15HP and swap the 9.9 cover on it.

Nice boat!

there are quite a few twin setups in NJ, a guy I kno has twin 9.9s and they are mainly used for fast trolling for muskie. a big walleye boat like that does about 5mph max w a 9.9 and having 2 makes the boat control incredible especially when listing. And as said the regs say 9.9 max, doesnt say how many. My only problem w that boat is it has a full windshield, not an ideal setup if your going 7-8mph max, takes alot of room up, that would be a nice double bubble console setup, G3 makes a nice deepV boat.......

.........the problem w swapping covers is it doesnt change the manufacturers sticker on the main assembly, look at any outboard there is a plate that states what it is. If you actually get checked thats what they look at. There is a company that does ECU tuning and they can take an EFI engine and change its HP by reprogramming the computer, and supposedly its legal and recognized in alot of states

I've heard of at least 10 ppl bein busted for this at the two mentioned lakes...
talked to a ranger past fall that said he got 4 diff boats for this at RV alone last yr....In one case they confiscated the guys boat....That's a big risk to take....But if you've got the money to spend, either option won't hurt so much no matter the consequences....
