It's a cold day to go for a swim! I've been on the ice 14 times this season and all the places I've been fishing have inconsistent ice. It can go from 3-6" in one spot to skim ice in a few steps. If you do go out go to a spot you've been checking before the snow and make sure you use a spud bar and have a pair of ice picks around your neck. Ice picks are around $5 and make it easy to get out if you fall in. I go out on some sketch ice but I always have a pair on me and my suit floats.

That being said, tonight it's supposed to get down below 0 everywhere with no wind and the temps are looking good this week. Any open water should lock up tonight and be safe in a few days, even on the bigger lakes. You should be able to go anywhere next weekend!

Definitely have to be careful out there. Someone falls through every year, it's horrible. Hate hearing about people going in. Hope the person is ok.

Good to hear. I'm sure that the snow was pretty heavy on the ice..
