'big D', Riegelsville Ramp Report!!! 11/21

Hit the great big river for a few hours yesterday after work. First stop was at the boat launch to check on the finished product, looks great. Pavers, huge curbing, plenty of parking and a nice wide ramp. Unfortunately the ramp is not open yet but will be soon.

Off to the fishing hole to see what was lurking. Fished Shiners on bottom and on slip bobbers while jigging various lures. Managed to get a couple short Walleye on the jig as well as one that hit a dead sticked Shiner. But they were all shorts between 12-14 inches. I swear the Flatheads are eating everything they can fit into there mouths. On the slip bobber I managed 7 Smallies, 1@3.5lbs, 2@2lbs and the rest were cookie cutters around 9-12 inches. Good couple of hours of fishing, great evening weather wise. Alot of bait still coming to the surface, one more week it should be all Walleye from hear into Winter.

There's still a dock w/ handicap access being installed. They just started striping the lot this week. Probably finishing up 2nd week of dec. or so.

Tom, where the hell are they putting a handicapped ramp and where's the dock going? I don't see that kind of stuff lasting too long once the river floods! That river is a powerful machine, capable of destroying anything man can build!!!

From what I'm told, the dock will be positioned just upstream of the ramp and it's supposed to be handicap accessible. The dock is modular and will be assembled on site once the pilings are in.

I'm not so sure what's gonna happen when we get another 30 ft crest @ Riegelsville.
BTW, watch out for that telephone pole, looks like it's gonna stay until it gets knocked over, haha.

Glad to see the launch getting done. The jury is out on the engineering. Looks like the road under the RR bridge is 6" or so lower than the parking lot with no drain, not sure how easy it will be to get your rig turned around and pointed down the ramp the way the parking is set up and the ramp faces down stream as it should on a river. But in this case there is an upstream current into the Eddy created by the musky. The correct way to drive a boat on a trailer is to go against the current and drive or turn onto your trailer. With all that said I'm sure we will all manage and it really looks nice.

Any set date as to when the ramp will open? I'm new to freshwater fishing and would absolutely love to take the boat out with the old man for a walleye trip as soon as weekend.

Unfortunately there is no set date. Could be a week or two. You can launch near lambertsville. Lots of Walleye in that area. Pretty wide stretch as well.
